Q快十岁了，小学四年级，刚在英国呆了一年，上了一个当地小学，回国后再次捧着我和儿子共同编写的《英语，儿子“教”我学》这本书看，读着我当年带着八岁的儿子在英国上小学的那些故事，Q找到了很多共鸣。她好像是儿子当年的一个翻版。

但是，当我见到Q，读着她刚写的一篇自编英文故事，听着她流利的伦敦音英语时，我更看到的是两个时代的孩子，虽然他们只有五岁之差！

l   去英国的年份：儿子是2008年，Q是2014年。

l   去英国时的年级：儿子是小学二年级第二学期去的；Q是小学三年级第二学期去的。

l   去英国之前的水平：儿子的英文听说读写都几乎是零，就学校二年级英语课本的水平；Q去的时候英文的日常听说已经基本接近母语，已经能够流利阅读英文章节书，只是没有怎么写。

l   去英国之前参加课外英语培训的情况：儿子去之前从未上过一天英语课外培训班；Q去之前已经是北外青少英语的老学员了。

l   在英国学习的时间：儿子呆了半年，上学三个月；Q呆了一年，上满了一个学年的课程。

l   学习结束时的英文写作水平：请见附件一：儿子回国八个月后写的故事（他刚回来的时候还写不出来）和附件二：Q刚回国写的小说（注意：有章节的，我这里只是摘录了第一章）。两人有异曲同工之妙（都是讲皇族，都是文字配图），也有男孩子和女孩子关注点的不同（征服世界的亚历山大和仙女国的女王），但请重点看词汇量的广度和句式的复杂度，九岁的Q远远胜过当年九岁的儿子。

想起春节前我在方庄校区北外青少英语遇到一位来咨询的家长，心想，都快春节了，还想着来咨询，需求一定刚性。孩子五岁，我问家长为什么让孩子学英语，家长说，就是希望她上学以后英语能够学得不费劲。我说，那您这要求也太低了，现在随便哪个孩子，只要上个课外英语培训机构，都能做到课内英语学习不费劲！家长补充道，也是准备着孩子将来出国念书。如果这是目标，那就不是随便哪个英语培训机构都能胜任的了。

现在的孩子已经不是五年前小学能考个剑桥少儿英语就是英语牛孩了，更不是当年的我们！现在雅思6.0就能上英国排名前70的高校，托福80分就能够去美国排名前150的高校，五年以后十年以后一定不是这个标准，因为有备而来的孩子越来越多。

十年以后，现在小学一二年级的孩子都该上大学了，那个时候他们的整体英语水平，以及英美大学对于国际学生英语水平的要求，就像这两个孩子的成长一样，隔五岁就相隔一个时代，而十年就是跨越两个时代！

我们准备好了吗？

【备注：这里只做了英语的比较，我相信英语之外的跨越更是会令我们难以想象！】

Wonder Adventure

It was history class. Mr. Johnson told the children about wonders. “Sight seeing in the minds eye, can never be destroyed.” He read. Chip liked wonders, so he wrote a book about wonders. He showed the book to Mr. Johnson. “Fantastic!” said Mr. Johnson. Mr. Johnson went to Biff’s house. He wanted to meet Chip. But Chip went out. Biff showed Mr. John the magic key. “Oh! What a special key!” said Mr. Johnson.

Biff went to help mum. “Oh! Bad luck!” said Mr. Johnson. Suddenly, the magic key began to glow. The magic took Floppy and Mr. Johnson to Alexander’s city. “I can see the light house!” Shouted Mr. Johnson. They saw a large house. “Is anyone in?” Mr. Johnson asked. A man came out. He’s Alexander! “Hi, are you all right?” Alexander asked. “Oh! I… I just …” Mr. Johnson was sorry. “You must be the man who has the ‘heaven dog’.” Alexander pointed at Floppy. “Can you help me?” Asked Alexander. “Oh, I don’t know what’s happening” said Mr. Johnson. “Tell me! OK!” Alexander wanted Mr. Johnson to tell him about his future. “OK!” said Mr. Johnson. He thought that he could tell Alexander about his future. “You can write from Greece to East Asia!” said Mr. Johnson. “Thank you!” said Alexander.

Suddenly, the magic key began to glow. “Bye!” said Mr. Johnson. “Bye!” said Alexander. Mr. Johnson told Biff about the adventure. “What! Wow! That was strange!” said Biff.

A Fairy Girl with a Human Friend 

Chapter 1

I flyed above the crystal blue sky into the pure, white clouds, through the deep, ghostly woods and upon the glitering lakes. It’s dawn when I arrived at my palace, getting ready for my coronation ceremony …

I am Stephanie, queen of the minths. The minths aren’t just any ordinary tribes or something, they are fairies! And I am one of them. But I must admit not many minths have swan wings, long, blondy hair, or a pair of shoes made of clouds, do they? I’m not being boastful, but I think I’m quite … eh … extraordinary. Now back to business. So, today is my coronation ceremony. Although I’m only 11, Qury, the all-knowing, said I’m the most powerful fairy of all, forced my body into a long, white dress that squished my poor wings. Then I made my hair into plaits, brushed my wings and rushed off. This time I didn’t fly. I ride on my little reindeer, Ellie. The coronation here aren’t held in a church or something, like the humans do, they’re held in the middle of Emerald pond! Now just imagine it. The thorn is on a massive lily and is a flower itself, and all around the pond stood all kinds of fairies. Mariana (my friend) stood, holding the crown and wearing an ultra-disgusting pinkie dress. I walked through the lilies in the pond, trying extra extra, EXTRA hard to look like an girly grown-up queen, but I just can’t. Now I heard the all mumbled. Blah, blah, blah… Long Live the Queen…blah blah blah… Our queen, Stephanie Varatin of the minths…blah blah BORING. And then we had an fine feast. I know nothing but happiness on that day, but now I know I’m the queen of millions of fairies.
