Chinese grammar--The difference between 颗and 棵

“颗”和“棵”的读音一样，但是用于完全不同的事物。

Pronounced the same way, but they are used for completely different things.

（一）    “颗”多用于颗粒状的东西；“棵”却主要用于植物。例如：

“颗” is for things shaped as small and round; while “棵” is mainly used for plants. For example:

一棵大树

几棵草     

两棵菊花

院子里中了一棵葡萄树。

这棵松树真好看。

（二）用于植物时，不能用“颗”；用于颗粒状的物品时，不能用“棵”。例如：

“颗” can’ t be used for plants, and “棵”, on the other hand, can’t be used for things small-and round-shaped.

*一颗大树

*几颗草

*两颗菊花

*院子里中了一颗葡萄树。

*这颗松树真好看。

*一棵子弹

*两棵宝石

*几棵珍珠

*无数棵星星

*一棵不变的心
