汉语语法—“常常”和“通常”意义上的差别

Chinese grammar--The difference in construction between 常常 and 通常

一、“常常”侧重于表示动作、行为或事件发生的频率，既不是三次、五次发生，而是屡次发生。例如：

“常常”stresses the frequencies of action, acting or incident, and the frequencies here don’t mean three times or five times, but time and again. Example:

星期二她有课，有课的时候她常常来我这儿吃饭。

她睡觉前常常要写日记。

二、“通常”则侧重于表示动作、行为或事件发生的一般性或规律性，即按照一般规律会发生某一动作、行为或事件，不是在一般规律的条件下，就不会发生某一动作、行为或事件。例如：

    While “通常”stresses the generalities or regularities of action, acting or incident, namely some action, behavior, accident will take place according to the general rules, otherwise some action, behavior or incident will not take place if not according to the general rules. Example:

他早上通常五点起床。

他写完信，通常连看一遍也不看就发出去。

三、“通常”表示动作、行为、事件的发生带有一贯性，当然发生的频率要高，在这一点上，它跟“常常”相似，但是，“通常”意义所侧重的点不是它的频率，而是它产生这一动作、事件频率的前提条件——一般的条件下或一般的情况下。

    “通常” also indicates that the occurrence of actions, behaviors or incidents is consistent and certainly of high occurring frequencies. In this point “通常” is similar to “常常”, but “通常”doesn’t stress on the frequency, but on the premise, under general condition or circumstance which causes this frequency of action or incident.
