Put sb up to sth: 鼓励或怂恿某人做某事;通常为错误行为,但程度较轻.

英语解释为：to encourage someone to do something, usually something wrong.

或:To cause to commit a funny, mischievous, or malicious act.

My older brother put me up to making a prank telephone call.

那个恶作剧电话是我哥让我打的

I think he was put up to it by his friends.

我想这事是他的那些朋友怂恿他干的.

同样,此种表达还可以用一下形式:
