Far East 26 faster than J/80

Seen at the China Cup – it must be true

Saturday, 29th October 2011. China Cup. Morning Race. Showdown in Daya Bay: 10 Far East 26s and 11 J/80s on the start line together. Which of them will get to the windward mark first?

The Sanya Yomovo FE26 Team was ready for the predicted result. Someone asked, “What happens after the first mark?” and I replied, “Dunno, we’ll just follow the J/80s!”

However when we arrived at our upwind destination, looking for our leader, there was no J/80 in sight (nor anyone else for that matter). Turns out we were looking the wrong way (LOL – just having fun guys).

Checking in the rearview mirror we could just about spot one, dancing along nicely behind another Far East 26.  So there we have it, except to say that without our leader we got a little lost… but that’s a different story.

Update: a Far East 26 came in before the first J/80 on both of Saturday’s races, but on Sunday afternoon (Island Race), a J/80 (sailed by another Sanya crew) pushed a Far East 26 into second place. This story is going to run and run!
