自由直接引语
在现代英文小说中还常见另外一种引语形式,这种引语也是直接引语和间接引语的混合形式,但基本上是直接引语,因为它具有直接引语的多数特征,例如动词的时
、体形式不要改变
;人称代词
、指示代词和某些限定词仍保持原样;时间状语和地点状语一般也不作变更
但同时它又具有间接引语的某些特征,如不用引号,可以保留引述分句

自由直接引语不以叙述者的视角为出发点,叙述者隐身在后,以引述人物为中心。和自由间接引语一样,也着力于描绘人的心理活动,所以第一人称在自由直接引语中较为多见。例如:
