名词词组的中心词:专有名词、物质名词、抽象名词等
Bernard Shaw was a famous British dramatist.萧伯纳是著名的不列颠剧作家。
Sugar dissolves in water. 糖溶于水。
Honesty is the best policy. 诚实是上上策。

但是，名词中心词通常带有限定词和修饰语，从而形成比较复杂的名词词组结构。
There is a surprising lack of understanding of what science is.

令人惊讶的是没有足够地认识到什么是科学。
He found a new student sitting in the comer， a very bright boy.

他发现一名新生坐在角落里，是个非常聪明的男生。
The author's new book on phonology (音位学） recently published is more than worth reading.

作者的新作专门研究音韵学，新出版不久，非常值得一读。

有些代词也可作名词词组中心词。
The idea is a strange one. 这个想法很奇怪。

Anyone who saw the accident should phone the police.

任何人看到这种事故都应该会报警。
Whoever killed the girl will be sent to prison.

不管是谁杀了那个女孩都会被送进监狱。
I'll do whatever you say. 我做事会听从您的吩咐。
He who hesitates is lost. (当断不断，反受其乱。）

括号里面的是个好interpretation, 但不是好的translation。建议改为“人一犹豫就会迷路”。
某些形容词冠以定冠词也可构成名词词组。
In China, the old and the young are taken good care of.在中国，老人和少年儿童都会受到很好的照顾。
The most experienced will be elected to the leading posts. 最有经验的人将被选入领导岗位。
