    东川是云南省昆明市所辖五区之一，拥有人口30.2万人，国土面积1858.79平方公里，东邻会泽，南接寻甸，西连禄劝，北与四川省会东县隔金沙江相望。境内最高海拔4344.1米，最低海拔695.9米。此处乃是云南与四川两省；昆明与昭通、曲靖、四川凉山三地区；东川、会泽、巧家、会东四县区的交界。东川全区高差3649.1米。区委区政府所在地铜都镇，海拔1280米，城区面积5平方公里，距昆明市区157公里，距四川凉山彝族自治州首府西昌市316公里。
