分类: 托福TPO口语参考答案

1.     Think of a book that you have not read but are interested in reading. Explain why the book was important to you. Give specific details and examples to explain your answer.

I haven’t read the series of books, Harry Potter. I am interested in reading them because I’ve watched all the movies and I think they are awesome. The stories have opened a new world to me. In this magic world, I can do everything and at least temporarily forget all the worries in the real world. Besides, People who have read the books told me that there are more details in the books and stories are more exciting. There are even some strange characters that didn’t get filmed into the movie.

2.     Some people like to have their cell or mobile phone with them at all times. Other people prefer not to bring their cell or mobile phone with them everywhere they go, or they choose not to own one at all. Which do you prefer? Explain why.

I prefer not to bring cell-phones everywhere. There are some occasions I want to be detached from the world. For example, when I am readying a book in my study or in the library. It’s very annoying to hear the ring of the cell-phone or feel the vibrations. It always interrupts my train of thoughts. Having a cell-phone everywhere means you can be disturbed anytime. Nowadays, not just your friends will call you or send you message. More often than not, you receive spam messages or anonymous calls. It makes angry even to answer the calls.

3.     The man expresses his opinion about the proposal in the letter. Briefly summarize the proposal. Then state his opinion and explain the reasons he gives for holding that opinion.

The writer of the letter proposes to cancel the advisor meetings because all the necessary information is already on the website, so students don’t need to meet advisors and because scheduling meetings with advisors is very hard.

The man in the conversation doesn’t agree with the writer. He thinks, first of all, the information on the website is just basic. Advisors have extra information that can help us figure out different ways to meet requirements. Sometimes, having other people to help will make things easier. The man also says that scheduling meetings is not that difficult. You just have to call the office and make schedules earlier. Those who have problems are people who always wait until the last minute.

4.     Using the example of the urn plant, explain how epiphytes have adapted to life in the rain forest.

Epiphytes are plants that use a host plant as a platform to grow. But they don’t get nutrients from the host plant and they develop their own ways to overcome problems. The professor takes urn plant as an example. Urn plant usually grows at the top of the trees. They wrap their roots around the trunks on the upper part of the trees, usually at the canopy, so that they can get sunlight. Besides, their leaves shape like a bowl. This special arrangement of leaves can store water from rain. Also, when insects, dead leaves and debris are washed down into the bowl and mix with the water, they decompose and so create a kind of liquid fertilizer from which urn plant can get nutrients.

5.     Briefly summarize the problem the speakers are discussing. Then state which solution you would recommend. Explain the reasons for your recommendation.

The man and his friends started a band. They want to have a concert in the auditorium before summer. But the auditorium has been fully booked for the rest of the weekends. This is their problem. There are two solutions. The first one is to play on Wednesday night. But there will be a smaller audience and people may feel disappointed. The second solution is to play with their friends next Saturday. But they won’t have enough time to play all their songs. I recommend the first solution. Even if the audience will be smaller, at least they have enough time to perform all their songs. And smaller audience doesn’t necessarily mean disappointment. Sometimes people are more excited in a smaller but more intimate group.

6.     Using the examples from the talk, explain two ways that a product’s container can be designed to appeal to consumers.

The professor talks about two ways to make a product’s container look better. The first way is to make it as user-friendly as possible. For example, the container of condiments was made of glass. When people use it, they have to screw off the lid and pour out the condiment, which will make food look messy. But now it is made of plastic. People just have to squeeze it to get the condiment out. The second way is to give the container pleasing appearance. In this way, customers will feel comfortable displaying them. For example, cookies were contained in a plain cardboard box. But now they are contained in metal box decorated with beautiful pictures. Now that the container looks better, people are more willing to buy the products.
