“The Never-Ending Space Dream”
“It's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind”,
said by Neil Armstrong, the first man landed on the moon, after he
descended the ladder of lunar module in 1969. I can still remember
the live broadcast when the American successfully sent her first
astronaut to the moon in the Apollo 11 mission.
During my primary education in New Zealand in the 1970s and 1980s,
I was crazy for the childhood stories of greatest scientists like
Issac Newton, Gaileo Galilei, Thomas Edison, Albert Einstein and
Stephen Hawking as well as the science fictions like “Star Wars”
and “Star Trek”. I had a dream of
being an air force pilot, probably enable me to further become an
astronaut, flying to the moon in a space shuttle. To this end, I
studied very hard as a science student during my secondary
education and completed it with a distinction in my university
entrance examination, aimed at pursuing an engineering degree with
a major in aviation technology. However, my dream was
interrupted by my critical physical condition and financial ability
during my Bachelor and Masters school life. I regretfully gave up
my space dream and eventually took many years to become a senior
management of multinational corporation.
My beloved son David was born in 2005 while my career based
in Shenzhen. David is currently a
student of the Senior Four Class at MIEG HaiYin Greatwall
Kindergarten, leading to a wonderful childhood with the best
education in Shenzhen. Although David is now
a 5 years old boy, he is a space mania too. Unlike the other
kids, David prefers reading the real celebrity stories rather than
fairy tales. Aside from reading
“Lion King”, “Mickey Mouse Clubhouse”,
“Thomas&Friends”, “Dora the Explorer” and “Noddy”
for fun and supplemental English practice during his leisure, David
fonds of searching for short stories and photos on the topics of
space heros and space travel from the bookstore or Internet by
himself, namely, “Escape from Earth”, “Space Travel”, “Working in
Space”, “The Apollo Lunar Exploration”, “The Rocket”, “The Boy
Embraces the Stars (Stephen Hawking)”, “The Childhood Story of
China’s Space Hero Yang Li Wei (China’s first astronaut entered
into space)”, “The Encyclopaedia of Universe for Youth” and “The
Toy Story (Buzz Lightyear)”, in order to learn more about space
science knowledge. Furthermore, David
also likes to design and create some interesting space models such
as rockets and solar system together with me over the weekends, in
a way to support the establishment of a space museum for his
classroom at HaiYin Kindergarten recently.

My lovely son David and I share a common dream of
space. I hope David could
grow up healthily and happily accompanied with meaningful stories
and rewarding life experience, not only to realise my unfinished
dream, but most importantly to chase his own dream to go to the
moon, mars and deep space for the well-being of our
world.
