《星火》是一本已有百年历史的周刊，无论是在前苏联，还是在俄罗斯的报刊史上，《星火》都曾发挥过举足轻重的作用。第一期《星火》杂志于1899年12月9日出版，它是一份图文周刊，以文学和艺术为主要内容。

《星火》杂志具有独特编排风格：封面往往为一个著名人物的大幅肖像，每期必刊登抒情诗和小说，有时是悬念叠起的侦探故事，有时是用优美文学语言描写，并配上精美图片的新闻故事，另外还可能是在苏联文化史上具有特殊意义的转折性事件。

通过《星火》杂志的报道，许多人逐渐了解了世界文化巨著，俄罗斯的古典文学以及经典的油画作品。其中文学作品插图尤为精湛，很多苏联著名插图画家、版画家为杂志作插图或任《星火》杂志的专职美术编辑。早期(50年到60年代)为《星火》杂志绘制插图的画家有：克里马申、施马利诺夫、平克塞维奇、茹可夫、维林斯基、杜宾斯基、符·优金、萨瓦布歇依斯科、卡拉琴佐夫等。近十几年来，涌现出来的中青年插图画家有：萨瓦·布歇依斯科、克拉萨乌斯卡斯、彼德罗伏依、斯·勃罗茨基等。

苏联的插图艺术同舞蹈、音乐、油画一样，在世界上享有盛誉，并影响了一代又一代中国的画家，我国很多的插图画家都受到过《星火》插图的影响。在五六十年代的美术学子更是为拥有一些《星火》的插图而兴奋，一遍一遍地临摹。

最近，努力找到一些《星火》的插图，有出版物、网上发布还有直接从我保存的《星火》杂志上翻拍下来的，分成五集，每集50幅，与大家共享。
