前言Foreword
劇作跟孩子成長歷程類同,當一部劇作脫離編劇之手,許多人會參與舞臺劇的製作過程,而在現場表演的一刻,觀眾其實也一起共同創作活現在舞臺上戲劇的真實體驗。這就是新劇開展生命的第一步。
As with the child,when a play leaves the playwright’s hands,many people get involved to guide its progress. A production team puts the work on stage in front of an audience,who then co-create the living experience of theatre in performance. This is the first step in the life of a new play.
下一步需要更多人的參與,香港藝術節《新劇本選》的實體書及電子書系列將新劇作品在藝術節首演後推廣到更多舞臺、新的製作團隊和新的觀眾群中。
Many people are needed again for the next step. The Hong Kong Arts Festival(HKAF)New Play Selection in book and e-book form,aims to facilitate the journey beyond an HKAF premiere season to subsequent stagings,new productions and new audiences.
我要感謝我的同事,他們全情投入的熱誠不斷為我帶來新靈感。我和我的團隊要感謝所有參演的藝術家及共同創作者,香港藝術節因有了你們才能如此生動真實。觀眾對香港藝術節呈現的新劇報以熱切期待,並積極參與,這標誌著香港戲劇已邁向細緻和成熟的階段。我期待香港戲劇在第40屆香港藝術節往後的年月中能躍升至更高平臺。
I thank my colleagues,who continue to inspire me with their dedication. With the team,I thank all the artists and co-creators who make the HKAF a living reality in theatre making that the new plays presented in the HKAF are warmly anticipated by an audience ready to participate in the co-creation. I look forward to the journey towards higher trajectories in the years beyond the 40th HKAF.
編劇的話 Playwright’s Notes
兩年前一則報導引起我的注意:有劇團因為排演有關“六四”主題的話劇而受到恐嚇,我一看導演名字,已排除這是宣傳的可能——他是一個我十分信任和尊重的舊同學。我撥了一通電話,知道他們的確因為製作題材受到壓力,有些工作人員更因此請辭。一方面我為“創作環境”迫不得已的改變而感到氣憤,另一方面我慶幸,社會上還有這樣的報導、我們還可以公開地抱不平。
A new story published two years ago caught my attention:A theatre group fell victim to intimidation for preparing a play about June 4th. When I saw the name of the director,I was sure this was not a publicity gimmick — he is an old schoolmate whom I trust and respect. I called him and learnt that pressure was exerted on the team,and some production staff even decided to call it quits. While I was angered by this deplorable change in the “creative environment”,I was heartened to learn that people cared enough to report this kind of new,that we could still openly expose such injustice.
一顆種子會結成什麼樣的果子,還要看栽種的氣候;由栽種到結果、由創作概念到今天的文本,都是關於這些年城裡的風風雨雨。
How a seedling flourishes depends on its surrounding climate:What nurtured my play from concept to finished script are the storms and vicissitudes our city has ridden in the recent past.
