Destination USA: 75 million international guests visited in 2014

Did you visit the United States in 2014? If so, you helped set a new record as one of 75 million visitors from around the world who traveled to the United States last year, a 7 percent increase from 2013.

The top countries of origin for U.S. tourists continued to be Canada and Mexico. Visitors from China — the sixth-largest group — jumped more than 21 percent from 2013 levels.

About 41 percent of international visitors who entered the United States in 2014 did so through New York, Miami or Los Angeles.

President Obama has made increasing international tourism a priority for his administration. His goal is attracting 100 million international visitors annually by 2021.

The U.S. departments of Commerce and Homeland Security recently sent a report to the president on a strategy to draw more international visitors by delivering a “best-in-class arrivals experience” that ensures the United States becomes an even more popular destination of choice.
