Americans are fond of saying we are an immigrant nation.
Indeed, diversity is one of our greatest
strengths. Yet, we have not always been
accommodating to immigrants during the course of our history.
This seminar/lecture explores the ways in which
the federal government has eased the transition from immigrant to
citizen, the strategies of immigrants themselves to become a part
of American society, and the resistance to immigration.
I will also discuss the current debate over
immigration and pending legislation, and the demographic changes
that are occurring as a result of immigration, and their political
implications.
