天文学家们根据国家航空航天局（NASA）开普勒(Kepler)和史匹哲(Spitzer)太空望远镜提供的资料，绘制了第一幅太阳系外一个行星的云图。这个行星被称为开普勒-7b（Kepler-7b），四周呈现云蒸霞蔚的景象，与木星（Jupiter）类似。
该行星的西部是高空云层，东部是晴朗的天空。开普勒-7b (左上图) 的半径为木星（右）的1.5倍。
剑桥（Cambridge）麻省理工学院（Massachusetts Institute of Technology）的布莱斯-奥利弗尔•德莫利（Brice-Olivier Demory）说：“我们用开普勒和史匹哲太空望远观察了3年多，得以绘制出这个低分辨度的巨大气态行星的‘地图’。” 德莫利是被《天体物理杂志通讯》（Astrophysical Journal Letters）接受发表的一篇论文的主要作者。
开普勒已经发现150多个系外行星（exoplanets），即太阳系外的行星。开普勒-7b是首批被发现的这类行星之一。

NASA Space Telescopes Find Patchy Clouds on Exotic World

Astronomers using data from NASA’s Kepler and Spitzer space telescopes have created the first cloud map of a planet beyond the solar system, a sizzling, Jupiter-like world known as Kepler-7b.
The planet is marked by high clouds in the west and clear skies in the east. Kepler-7b (above on the left) is 1.5 times the radius of Jupiter (right).
“By observing this planet with Spitzer and Kepler for more than three years, we were able to produce a very low-resolution ‘map’ of this giant, gaseous planet,” said Brice-Olivier Demory of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge. Demory is lead author of a paper accepted for publication in Astrophysical Journal Letters.
Kepler has discovered more than 150 exoplanets, which are planets outside the solar system, and Kepler-7b was one of the first.
