Georgian exchange student Natia Jikia advises people traveling to the United States to “be open, ask questions, be positive, and smile.” In America, she says, “everything is possible!”

Natia Jikia, a graduate exchange student from Georgia, describes her visit to the Grand Canyon as “truly phenomenal.” The canyon “made a huge impression on me. It was everything I expected and much more.”

However, when she reflects on what she will remember most about her time in the United States, “it is the relationships I have built and friends I made” that are most important. Her American friends have become an “integral” part of her life. In her estimation, “Americans are my people. I can relate to them equally as much as I can relate to my fellow Georgians.”

Jikia advises people traveling to the United States to “be open, ask questions, be positive, and smile.” In America, she says, “everything is possible!”

Jikia studies at George Mason University in Virginia as part of the Edmund S. Muskie Graduate Fellowship Program, which is funded by the U.S. State Department and implemented by IREX, a nonprofit organization originally known as the International Research and Exchanges Board.
