Postage Stamp Raises $1.5 Million to Save Wildlife
Americans pay a little extra in postage to help wildlife.
In just one year, a U.S. postage stamp has raised more than $1.5 million for programs to protect endangered wildlife around the world.
Americans snapped up the Save Vanishing Species stamp that featured an image of an Amur tiger, now numbering just 400 in the wild. More expensive than a normal postage stamp at 55 cents, each stamp sold generated 11 cents that went to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s Wildlife Without Borders–Multinational Species Conservation Funds. This program provides grants for international conservation projects to protect animals such as tigers, elephants, rhinos, gorillas, chimpanzees and sea turtles.
Since 1989, Wildlife Without Borders has provided more than 2,700 grants for international wildlife conservation totaling more than $100 million.
