Please join us at the Beijing American Center for a lecture by Professor of Education Reform Reed Greenwood, whose distinguished career has focused on elementary and secondary education in the U.S.  For those interested in learning more about how the U.S. educational system works, this will be a wonderful opportunity to ask questions of an expert in this field.  This event will take place at 10am on Thursday, September 20.

Reed Greenwood is Professor of Education Reform and former Dean of the College of Education and Health Professions at the University of Arkansas, the second largest academic unit at the University.  While serving as Dean, the College increased enrollment by over 50 percent in both undergraduate and graduate programs; secured the largest private gift in the history of the college that included the largest scholarship gift ever and funds for a new department addressing K-12 education reform; expanded academic offerings to include a number of new degree programs; created and endowed seven faculty chairs; increased the College endowment from less than $4 million to over $34 million; recruited over 50 new faculty to the College; and installed "smart" instructional technologies in every classroom .   He was appointed by President Ronald Reagan to the President's Committee on the Employment of People with Disabilities and by then Governor Bill Clinton to the Arkansas Board of Examiners in Counseling.  Greenwood served six years on the Fayetteville Board of Education and as a member on the Blue Ribbon Commission on Public Education in Arkansas, a statewide advisory and study group on education policy.  He is an active scholar with numerous publications and presentations in the fields of counseling, rehabilitation and education and he served as a Switzer Fellow of the National Rehabilitation Association.  He received his doctorate in counselor education from the University of Arkansas and prior to that his master's and bachelor's degrees from the same institution.  In addition to his work in higher education over the past forty years, his career includes positions as a high school mathematics teacher, rehabilitation counselor and administrator.  Actively involved in civic and community affairs, Greenwood has served on the boards of the local performing arts center, symphony, and numerous other organizations.  He is married to Dr. Mary Ann Greenwood,  President and Chief Executive Officer for Greenwood Gearhart Inc., a registered investment firm.  She is also Chair of the Arkansas Economic Development Commission and serves on a number of boards of medical, charitable, philanthropic, and education organizations.
