玛雅·劳伦斯经过多年努力终于在奥运会上获得奖牌。
今年32岁的玛雅·劳伦斯（Maya Lawrence）在16年的击剑生涯中一直抱有一个在奥运会展现身手的梦想。
劳伦斯对《福布斯》杂志（Forbes）说起她的家乡新泽西州时表示：“我来自蒂内克（Teaneck），一个中产城市。”她的母亲是蒂内克高中女子击剑队教练，她的父亲主管州内各项体育活动。
劳伦斯虽然是一名女子击剑老将，但她没有获得入围2004年雅典奥运会的资格。她继续进行一周6天、每天4小时的训练，为进军2008年北京奥运会做准备。当时，虽然她跻身前四名，但美国队仅在个人项目中获得一个参赛名额，于是她只能再努力争取参加2012年伦敦奥运会。
在此期间，劳伦斯从普林斯顿大学（Princeton University）毕业，并在哥伦比亚大学（Columbia University）获得教育硕士学位。

Maya Lawrence Hits Olympic Mark

Maya Lawrence came a long way for her Olympic medal in women's épée team fencing.
Maya Lawrence, 32, has held onto an Olympic dream for the 16 years she’s been fencing.
“I’m from Teaneck, a middle-class town,” Lawrence told Forbes magazine of her New Jersey hometown. Her mother was the girls fencing coach at Teaneck High School, and her father officiated at sporting events throughout the state.
Although Lawrence is a veteran of women’s fencing, she missed out on qualifying for the 2004 Athens Olympics. She continued to train for four hours a day, six days a week in preparation for the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Then, even though she ranked among the top four, the United States only qualified for one spot in the individual event, leaving her to work toward the 2012 London Games.
Along the way, Lawrence graduated from Princeton University and earned a master's degree in teaching from Columbia University.
