国务卿希拉里•罗德姆•克林顿（Hillary Rodham Clinton）5月16日对参加全球公民社会2012年峰会的代表说：“腐败是蚕食经济机会的毒瘤。”

克林顿说：“它会让那些希望倾注自己的精力创业的人……多么灰心丧气？有时人们不得不靠多次行贿。有时你要得到与你创建自己的企业毫不相干的各种各样的许可证，而它只不过是让某些人继续在政府中保住饭碗。”

克林顿在保证美国对反腐败组织给予支持的同时还指出，社交媒体可以对揭露腐败发挥作用。她说：“[张贴]受贿情景的匿名照片，[张贴]关于官员阻碍你创建小企业的匿名报道。站到反腐败一边。我们将与你共同努力。”

"Take a stand against corruption," Secretary Clinton says. "We will work with you."

“Corruption is a cancer that eats away at economic opportunity,” said Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton at her Global Town Hall with Civil Society Representatives on May 16.

“How discouraging is that to people who want to get started and want to get going with their own energy to create something?” Clinton said. “Sometimes you have to pay many bribes. Sometimes you get all kinds of licenses that have nothing to do with actually starting your business, but it's just to keep somebody in the government employed.”

While pledging America’s support to groups that combat corruption, Clinton also suggested the role social media can play in shedding light on corrupt practices. “[Post] anonymous pictures of people taking bribes, [post] anonymous stories of officials who stand in the way of the creation of your small business. Take that stand against corruption. We will work with you.“
