美国奥运会乒乓球代表队四名队员皆为美籍华人，其中三人跻身美国最年轻的奥运队员之列。

15岁的张安从小时起便梦想参加夏季奥运会打乒乓球。她在今年4月份在北卡罗来纳州的女子单打资格赛中获胜（如图），从而赢得了参加2012年伦敦奥运会的机会。

张安（Lily Zhang）是美国乒乓球代表队中年纪最小的队员（6月她将满16岁）。乒乓球队中其他也是第一次参加奥运的队员有邢延华（Ariel Hsing，16岁）、吴诗雯（ Erica Wu，16岁）和王浩平（Timothy Wang，20岁）。如美国国家乒乓球队大多数年轻球员一样，他们四人都是美籍华人。

乒乓球项目第一次出现在1988年的首尔夏季奥运会上。中国赢得24枚金牌中的20枚，并赢得全部奖牌中的41枚。但是，国际乒乓球联合会（International Table Tennis Federation）出版物编辑伊恩·马歇尔（Ian Marshall）写道：“美利坚合众国无疑是世界乒乓球运动沉睡的巨人。”

All four players on the U.S. table tennis team for the 2012 London Olympics are Chinese-American. Three are teenagers, and they will be among the youngest athletes at the Olympic Games.

Lily Zhang, 15, has dreamed of playing table tennis at the Summer Olympics since she was a child. She earned her chance by winning a women’s singles qualifying match in North Carolina in April, shown above, and now she is going to the 2012 London Olympics.

Zhang is the youngest on the U.S. team (she turns 16 in June), which includes three other Olympics first-timers: Ariel Hsing, 16, Erica Wu, 16, and Timothy Wang, 20. All four are Chinese-American, as are most young players on the U.S. national table tennis team.

Table tennis first appeared at the Summer Olympics in 1988 in Seoul. China has won 20 of the 24 gold medals and 41 of the 76 overall medals, but Ian Marshall, publications editor at the International Table Tennis Federation, writes that “the United States of America is surely the sleeping giant of world table tennis.”
