Artist Statement
City landscapes and toys are the main focus as subjects for my work. City landscape has been a subject since I graduated from CAFA. The city is expanding rapidly as a monster. There are new buildings being built everyday. Tower-cranes, sand-piles, steel-bars and concrete are forming another kind of landscape in the city. It affects my emotion all the time. But when I’m painting, I transform the restless emotion. There is no loud noise or messy construction sites in my painting - instead, they are replaced by peacefulness. The light colour of my palette enables my exhausted nerves to rest for awhile, and gives me more time to explore inside my heart. My emotion is being adjusted during the process of painting. In contrast, there is more sadness embodied in the Toys Series. I am using my hands to build a temporary rescue shelter for the toys. At the same time, I am trying to build an ideal home to protect myself.
I am emotional, depressed, impatient, and most often I feel
helpless. But actually my life is very mundane: working, painting,
and playing. Perhaps my sensitivity enhanced the feeling of
helplessness. I explain my life and desire in my painting. I pay
attention to the people, the fragile toys and children, and various
kinds of objects. I tell people my feelings through painting.
Painting is my spokesperson. It is very meaningful to me.

STATEMENT
Raised in Pensacola, Florida, I now live in Massachusetts. I moved
here in April 1997. I now am entering my fifth year at the
Massachusetts College of Art, majoring in fine arts.
With a strong foundation in the traditions of figurative painting,
I create paintings dealing with the physical and emotional
recreations of situations I’ve forgotten over time. I attempt to
recover these situations to understand my current situations in
life. My paintings are emotionally charged figures that are
responding to what has them in a certain situation, or to further
depict what is happening. Through this I create a point in the
painting to have a sense of reality, where as everything else is
being remembered through the working of the painting.
