Technology and Education
What the drawing vividly depicts is that a pupil tells his teacher he needs tech support to solve an extremely easy question on the blackboard. The picture illustrates that students are highly dependent on technology, overlooking the importance of independent thinking. However, as far as I am concerned, technology plays an important but not indispensable role in academic life.
Undoubtedly, advanced technology has brought many conveniences, but we are not supposed to rely on the technology too much. There are two reasons to support this view. To start with, we shoulder the responsibility to learn, and we cannot learn well with technology tools at hand. Furthermore, the future progress of technology depends on us. And only by having a total understanding of basic knowledge, can we promote the development of science and technology in the future.
Of course, the technology, especially the Internet, has made it much easier to get access to information than before. However, over dependence on technology has done more harm than good. Therefore, we should master basic knowledge on our own and learn how to apply technology to our academic life. Only in this way, can we benefit most from our learning process.

The ideal of rural life reflected in the arts and literature is an important feature of Chinese civilization, which, to a large extent, can be attributed to Taoist affection for nature. There are two favorite themes in traditional Chinese paintings. One theme is various happy scenes of family life. In most of the paintings, the seniors are drinking tea and playing chess; men are sowing and reaping; women are weaving and sewing; and the children are playing outside. The other theme is all kinds of joys of the country life. In the paintings, fishermen are fishing on the lake; farmers are cutting firewood or gathering herbs in the mountains; or scholars are chanting poetry and painting under the pines. These two themes can respectively represent Confucian and Taoist ideal of life.

No Shortcut to Learning
The cartoon above is thought provoking. A youngman asks where he can find a book named “How To Do Well In School Without Studying”, and the woman suggests him to find it in the fiction section. Apparently, the cartoon ironically demonstrates a truth that there is no such a thing as a shortcut to learning.
The nature of study requires it to be based on a solid foundation. Just as we cannot build a castle in the air, neither can we obtain advanced knowledge through a shortcut, for a shortcut can shatter the foundation. For example, students may choose to cheat in order to acquire a high score. However, the cheaters will wind up in ignorance. In addition, although many students are averse to learning by rote, there is no denying that it is necessary to spend a certain amount of time to remember and learn the basic knowledge which lay the foundation for further study.
To sum up, students should come to realize that there exists no shortcut in study. Only hard work will form the bedrock of good performance in school.

Since the very beginning of the reform in 1978, China has transformed from a planned economy to an economy based on the market and undergone a rapid development of economy and society. Our GDP has risen at an average annual rate of 10%, thus over 500 million people getting rid of poverty. “The Millennium Development Goals” of UN have been achieved or will be soon. Currently, the twelfth Five Year Plan of China emphasizes the development of service industry, the solutions to the environment and the social imbalance. The government has set goals to reduce pollution, enhance energy efficiency, improve the opportunity to receive education and medical insurance and expand social insurance. The current 7% annual economic growth target of China shows the government attaches importance to the quality of life rather than the speed of economic growth.

Qualities of Job Applicants
In the cartoon, an employer expresses his pity for a young interviewee with a master’s degree. Although the young man has animpressive resume, he fails the interview, for his competitors arePh.D.s. The picture proves that nowadays interviewers pay more attention to the education background. However, I think that the abilities of job applicants should be put a higher value on. There are three main reasons for that. First and foremost, the education background is only a measure of one’s learning ability, and the cart should not be placed before the horse. Besides, in the sole pursuit of high level education, many companies are likely to miss some talented people, who may drop out of school because of financial difficulties. For example, Steve Jobs, a real innovator, did not finish his college; and Bill Gates, one of the richest men in the world, quit the university, too. An individual’s talents cannot be only measured by education background. Finally, most companies do not specialize in cutting-edge science, so some doctors may be a total waste there. In conclusion, I believe job applicants should not be evaluated only by their diploma, and their talents and abilities are supposed to be considered more by the recruiters.

China will exert itself to make sure the employees will have received average education of 13.3 years until 2015. If we can achieve that, the majority of people entering the labor force market will need a bachelor degree in future.
For the next few years, China will be committed to increasing the enrollments of training colleges; and apart from emphasis upon higher education, China will seek a new breakthrough to ensure the education system will be more equal. China is now trying to optimize the use of education resources; hence the rural and underdeveloped areas will get more support.
The Ministry of Education has also decided to improve the nutrition of students from underdeveloped areas and provide the equal access to education for the children of migrant workers in cities.
