                              A Classmate That Influenced Me Most in College

         Once upon a time, I was not so confident about my study and was subject to being pessimistic when confronted with frustrations. However, things virtually begin to change when Tom, my most intimate friend in college, strives to encourage me. I really appreciate his help.
        I used not to be good at English; however, whenever I was confused about the teacher's explanation, he always interpreted it to me in an explicit way, from which I found English not so formidable. In addition, it is Tom who kept teaching me how to live through setbacks and frustrations in the journey of life. I'll never forget thevery day when I failed my speech contest and was overwhelmed. Tom told me that nobody can defeat a person if he was determined to stand up to every failure. From his encouragement, I regained confidence in learning, knowing that optimism is always the key to success.
         Thanks to Tom, I eventually learned the significance of confidence and optimism, which serve as indispensable components of personality and are beneficial to a promising prospect.

                              A Course That Has Impressed Me Most in College
         There are a variety of courses in universities which provide us students with many options to broaden and enrich our knowledge. It goes without saying that students really benefit a lot from the courses in many respects.
         As far as I am concerned, I do harvest a lot from the courses I choose. This year as a junior student, I choose the course of British Literature which impresses me most. In the first place, I am deeply charmed by the scholarly image of the professor of this course. Enlightened by his lectures, I am on the threshold of the foreign literature. In the second place, my vision is definitely broadened by this course. As an English lover, gaining some knowledge of British literature undoubtedly adds to my understanding of English. Last but not least, this course will help me get accustomed to this foreign country when I go abroad.
       In general, I am satisfied with the various courses offered by my university. But it is the courses of arts which give me most help to perfect my knowledge system, especially the British Literature.

       Every university offers numerous kinds of activities to enrich students' extracurricular life. As one of the young college students, I have benefited a lot from all of these well-organized activities, but the one impressing me most is the debate competition that I took part in last year.
       That was a debate competition among different majors and the topic was theoretical knowledge versus practice. For me, what matters is not the result of the competition, but the process of gathering background information and practicing debate. Also, no individual can accomplish the challenging task all by himself or herself, so joint efforts have played a significant role in winning the competition. Team spirit and the sense of co-operation have been improved a lot and I believe these are more precious than winning or losing.
      To be brief, we should participate in more campus activities,through which not only can we get a better understanding of what we have learnt before, but also make new friends and discover our interests.
