雪夜停马黑森林，
此地有主我故人。

Stopping By Woods on a Snowy Evening

Whose woods these are I think I know.
 His house is in the village though;
 He will not see me stopping here
 To watch his woods fill up with snow.

 My little horse must think it queer
 To stop without a farmhouse near
 Between the woods and frozen lake
 The darkest evening of the year.

 He gives his harness bells a shake
 To ask if there is some mistake.
 The only other sound's the sweep
 Of easy wind and downy flake.

 The woods are lovely, dark and deep.
 But I have promises to keep,
 And miles to go before I sleep,

弗罗斯特的《雪夜停马故人林》堪称经典中的经典。作为一首现代诗，这部作品可能有点“淡”，没有新奇的意象，也没有怪异的比喻，但细细读来，却又感到它是如此地曲折深刻，在日常事物中营造了一种崇高的英雄感。雪夜入故人林，虽然故人不知不闻，但是两人的感情却耐人寻思；虽然诗中的主人公希望能够在林中多停留一会儿，但是因为身负承诺，还是要坚忍地离开，在长夜里继续漫漫长路。应当说，作者对中国古诗的研究非常透彻，用英文写出了唐诗的意境，同时又具有西方的宗教意味，堪称融合人类文明成果的巅峰之作，但最终让人印象深刻的，是它的朴实无华。
