We have had a second fantastic Book Week. The focus for the week is on enjoying books and immersing ourselves in literature.

    The First Book week has been a resounding success. Our children have been reading books everyday, talking about characters and plots and generally becoming immersed in literacy.  Our trip to the Juvenile and Children's Publishing House was a wonderful experience.  They got to see where the children's newspaper Little Frog is published, visited the museum and saw how printing was invented in China and dropped in on the writers and editors of Little Frog to see the process by which stories are drafted and edited and illustrations added to this publication.  It is important for children to see the process real writers go through to get their work published as, when they write, they also go through many of these processes.  A very special thank-you to our Mentors who helped to arrange this visit.  The dress-up day was fun and the children enjoyed showing their schoolmates their costumes and characters.  All-in-all a very successful week here at YK Pao School.

    Each morning we had a Book Week assembly with different guest readers. Mrs Ina Wynell-Mayow, from Dragon School, shared books with the children and Mr Christopher Stuart-Clark read from an anthology of poetry he has compiled. The children had books with them all the time just in case there was a DEAR (Drop Everything And Read). The bells could go anytime during the day and everyone, teachers included, had to stop what they were doing and read. It was important for children to see teachers reading their novels as children need to see that adults find reading a fun thing to do. Adults are role models for children - if parents and teachers read then children will see it as a good thing to do and so read more, which leads to more success. Thank you to all the parents who came in to read to the children and share their favourite books with classes. The dress-up day on Friday was a great event with children dressed as Little Red Riding Hood, Charlotte of Charlotte's Web, "Edward" from Narnia, Spider Man, Cinderella, Tin Tin Tinkerbell.
