2008年11月17日，在这个吉利的日子，包玉刚实验学校在上海市金山区举行了中学部的奠基仪式。奠基仪式的圆满成功，揭开了学校中学部的发展帷幕。
上海市、宁波市、金山区的各级领导和来自世界各地的包氏家族成员及海内外贵宾莅临奠基仪式，与学生、家长和老师一起，共同见证了包玉刚实验学校的一座发展里程碑。
在喜庆的舞狮、中国古诗背诵等学生节目之后，学校创建人和贵宾们一起挥锹奠基、种树。
中学部第一阶段的建设将于2010年完成，并将于2010年9月正式开学。随着不断的发展，学校将提供七至十二年级的中学教育。为鼓励学生在学业、体育、艺术等各方面的平衡发展，培养学生健康的社区观，学校将建设多种多样的设施设备，为强化学校的使命做好硬件设施准备。
中学部的住宿将借鉴英国经典的“学院”体系：每幢宿舍楼仅住约50个学生。不同年龄、不同年级但是同属一个“学院”的学生同住一幢楼，这样，学生们就能够跨越年级的界限，共同为自己的“学院”争光。在更广的平台上培养学生的竞争意识和团队精神。
据初步估算，中学部的建设总投资将达到五亿人民币。目前，学校的发展欣欣向荣，部分热心人士也对学校的未来表示出了极大的信心，慷慨解囊，为学校的发展助一臂之力。在将来，我们希望能够有更多志同道合的朋友加入这个行列，为包玉刚实验学校的发展添砖加瓦。

auspicious day, we held a Ground-breaking Ceremony to mark the
beginning of development
of our Secondary School Campus, in Jinshan District,
Shanghai.
The
colorful ceremony was attended by officials from Jinshan, Shanghai
and Ningbo, the Founders of our school, students, parents,
teachers, members of the Pao family from around the world and
guests. Following student performances including a lion dance and
recitation of Chinese classics, the Founders laid a foundation
stone and planted a tree.
The
first phase of the Secondary School is planned to open in September
2010. It will grow to offer education for grades 7-12. The campus
is planned to reinforce the mission of the school with extensive
facilities for sports and the arts to encourage a balanced
education as well as a sense of community.
Boarding in the School will be organized based on the
British‘house’ model: boarding houses aresmall (about 50 students)
and have different ages of students, meaning that students make
companionships and learn about loyalty, communitymindedness and
competition outside their year group.
The
total investment required for the new campus is estimated at
RMB500m. Some donors have already come forward to contribute to the
school's development, and we hope that we will benefit from more of
this kind of generosity in the future.
