Ode on Solitude                                               隐逸颂

Happy the man whose wish and care                                 匹夫何其幸，

  A few paternal acres bound,                                     祖传地几顷，

Content to breathe his native air,                                守拙恋乡土，

                   In his own ground.                             气是故园清。

Whose herds with milk, whose fields with bread,                   衣食皆自足，

  Whose flocks supply him with attire,                            土地牛羊赋，

Whose trees in summer yield him shade,                            好木夏供荫，

                   In winter fire.                                冬薪亦有余。

Blest, who can unconcerndly find                                  匹夫直可羡，                    

  Hours, days, and years slide soft away,                         无忧体自键，

In health of body, peace of mind,                                 闲坐观流年，             

                   Quiet by day,                                  悠然度日间，

Sound sleep by night; study and ease,                             夜亦得好眠，

  Together mixed; sweet recreation;                               劳逸两相便，

And innocence, which most does please                             嬉游自欢欣，

                  With meditation.                                真性勤思勉。 

Thus let me live, unseen, unknown;                                无闻生若此，                    

  Thus unlamented let me die;                                     死亦无人泣，

Steal from the world, and not a stone                             悄然辞世去，

                 Tell where I lie.                                不须碑铭记。

亚历山大.蒲伯（1688-1744），英国十八世纪诗人，善使“英雄双韵体”（heroic couplet）。作此诗时年约十二岁（好早熟的说）。
