goods是复数名词，为什么不能与many连用？

  问：我知道goods是复数名词，和people, cattle一样，没有单数形式，但是，people可以和 many连用，为什么goods不可以呢，请解释一下，好吗？

   答： 事实上，goods和 people，cattle不一样。 people, cattle都是常作复数使用的集合名词，具有复数概念，它们的谓语动词要用复数形式。其中，people是可数名词, 前面可以加数目字，或类似的限定语，比如： “How many people are there in your family?”（你家里有几口人？）“There are five people in my family.” （我家有5口人。）

而cattle除了可以说：Many cattle died in the drought. (许多牛在旱灾是死了。)  He has five cattle. (他有5头牛。) 还可以说：He has one head of cattle and she has three heads of cattle. (他有1头牛，她有3头牛。)

goods 表示“货物，商品”，既是一般用语，又是财贸用语。指销售或购入的物品，也指货车装运的货物。比如：The shopkeeper handed out his goods and the carrier took them away. （店主交了货，然后搬运工就把货运走了。）

          注意，这里的goods只有复数形式，前面不能加数目字，或类似的修饰语，因此不能说：two goods, many goods。只能说: 1）They gave me two pieces of goods. (他们给我两件货物。)  2）They gave me two kinds of goods. (他们给了我两种货物。) 或者：1） They gave me many pieces of goods. (他们给我许多件货物。)   2）They gave me many kinds of goods. (他们给我许多种货物。)
