1.     Overview
概览

The following is a brief orientation of the Golfweek process and procedures for rating golf courses.
以下简要介绍一下《高尔夫周刊》进行高尔夫球场评选程序步骤。

The principal goal of the rating panel is to determine the top golf courses from each of two eras: Classic (opened before 1960) and Modern (opened 1960 or after).

There are currently 400 Golfweek raters, drawn from all 50 states, who make up the Golfweek’s Best national rating panel. Raters are expected to visit and play candidate golf courses and submit numeric uations (ratings) for all courses visited. Results of all ratings are compiled and published annually in Golfweek and Golfweek’s SuperNEWS as Golfweek’s Best golf courses.

In 2006, there were approximately 17,000 golf courses in the U.S. – about 10,000 Modern and 7,000 Classic. Of these courses, 1,900 layouts – about 1,400 Modern and 500 Classic – have been selected (top 11 percent of U.S. courses) for consideration for the Golfweek’s Best lists, making them automatically among the elite of all golf courses in the U.S. Those that make the top 100 in each category occupy a very lofty position – the top 1 percent of all courses, with those on the Classic list among the elite 1.4 percent of their genre and those on the Modern list among the elite 1 percent of their type.

Golfweek has been publishing this list since 1997. In 2004, Golfweek expanded its lists to include the top resort, real estate, public-access and new courses. In 2006, Golfweek further expanded its lists to include casino courses. Soon, Golfweek will be taking these lists overseas.
《高尔夫周刊》从1997年开始此项排名。2004年，《高尔夫周刊》扩大了评选类别，包括最佳度假球场，最佳房地产球场，最佳公众球场和最佳新建球场。2006年，更是将评选类别扩大到最佳娱乐球场。很快，《高尔夫周刊》将会将这些评选面向海外。

In compiling these lists, Golfweek distinguishes itself from all other publications in terms of the depth of its rating criteria, the integrity of the process and the extent to which it has developed a community of raters through educational workshops and national meetings. Golfweek has been the first golf publication to convene such meetings.
在编辑这些球场名录的过程中，从评定标准、评定程序的公正性、再到从教学研讨班和全国会议中选拨评定员的广泛性上面，《高尔夫周刊》都区别于其他出版评定机构。《高尔夫周刊》成为召开相关评定会议中的首席高尔夫出版机构。
