With the rapid development of economy
and tourism industry, culture experience of travel is well welcomed
by tourists. Suzhou is an over-2500-year-old ancient city with
profound and rich culture. Kun Opera is one of its outstanding
representives, and it was also designated as the first batch of
intangible cultural world heritage lists by UNESCO in
2001. Located
in the Pingjiang historic block, Suzhou Kun Opera Museum is a good
place to learn the history and development of Kun
Opera.
The Museum has a vast of collections related to the Kun Opera
including scription, people and props. It's hard for visitors to
imagine how prosperously the Kun Opera had developed for 300 years
in the history, especially in Qing and Ming
dynasty.
There is one magnificent stage for Kun Opera performance
inside the main hall, where it can hold 100 audience. The museum
will invite some Kun Opera Troupes from all over China to conduct
one live performance every week. If you are interested, please note
the relating news on its website.
On one side of the stage, it demonstrates a lot of different
costume, hats, props, and facial makeup of
the Kun Opera.

On the other side, it lays out the traditional musical
instruments, which are played during the performance.

The highlight of the museum is the stage in the yard. It has
been preserved well for over 200 years, and was highly praised by
renowed architect, Mr. I.M. Pei, which is also one of the world
cultural heritage sites.

Another treasure is one kind of stage property, which were used to move to big families replacing the stage temporarily in old times when they held some big ceremonies such as marriages, birthday parties, etc.

A renowed painter in the 20th century called Mr. Gao Ma'de,
specialized in drawing people in the opera. In 2006, Mr. Gao
decided to relocate his gallery to the
museum.

In addition, young students are well welcomed to do DIY experience in the museum including drawing traditional fans, facial makeup, kites and so on.
In 2015, I traveled to Greece and the Acropolis Museum impressed me
a lot. There is one cafe on the second balcony. Most of tourists
preferred to drink a cup of coffee, enjoy modern lifestyle while
overlooking the Acropolis.
Suzhou Kun Opera Museum has two world cultural world heritage
sites, so it has the potential to become a world-level museum, but
still has a long way to go. For examples, besides delicate
muti-language service, the museum is recommended to develop vivid
Kun Opera performance on the stage while enjoying modern lifstyle
such as drinking coffee or tea along two sides of the
stage.
