—ing participle is used to include both the traditional " present participle " and the "gerund . The present lecture is devoted to the collocation of -ing participle with verbs.If need be, mention will also be made of the contrast between -ing participle and corresponding use of the infinitive.

1，Try putting (put) in some more vinegar---that might make it taste a bit better.

析: try to do表示努力做某事；try doing表示尝试做某事。

 

2，His warning scared her__into obeying_______(obey)him.

析：scare sb into doing sth 意思是威胁某人做某事，此处是威胁使之服从。

 

3，Mr Simpson grudged paying (pay) so much for such bad food. 

  析：grudge doing sth

 析：give sb to do sth

 

5，The witness denied having seen (see) the accused man.

析: deny后跟-ing 分词，根据句意，用完成时态。

析：scare sb into doing sth 意思是威胁某人做某事，此处是威胁使之服从。

 

7，Three children were saved___from being burnt___(burn)to death in a fire in Sailbury Road yesterday

.析：save sb from doing sth意思是拯救某人使之免受，又因为表示被动状态。

 

8，  I hate to mention (mention) it, but you owe me some money.

析: hate表示一般行为，用-ing分词较多，但是当表示特定的具体的动作，则用不定式较多。

 

9，I could not imagine that being (be) possible.

析: imagine +doing表示想象做…

 

10，The police have charged the students with obstructing (obstruct) the road.

析: charge sb. with 表示因为某事控诉某人。

1, James has just arrived, but I didn’t know he _________ until yesterday.

A. will come      B. was coming      C. had been coming       D. came

解析：这题是动词时态题。现在进行时可以表示即将发生的动作或计划好要做的事情，本句主句时态是过去时，所以从句要用be的过去时态。所以正确答案是B。

 

2, There used to be A．petrol station near the park, __?

A．didn’t it      B．doesn’t there     C．usedn’t it?     D．didn’t there

解析：反义疑问句题一直是大家的软肋。根据老师上课所讲陈述句是there used to be...句型，其后tag question用 usedn’t / didn’t there构成。所以答案是D。

 

3, What’s the chance of ________ a general election this year?

A. there being           B. there to be

C. there be              D. there going to be

解析：Of 后面要跟名词或动名词构成介宾结构，而there就是being a general election的逻辑主语，所以答案是A。

 

4, He is quite worn out from years of hard work. He is not the man ______ he was twenty years ago.

A. which       B. that      C. who      D. whom

解析：本句为限制性定语从句，用关系代词that引导，表示强调.其他三项不符合题意，所以选择B.

 

5, I know he failed his last test, but really he’s _________ stupid.

A. something but                B. anything but

C. nothing but                  D. not but

 

6, The board deemed it’s urgent that these files ____ right away.

A. had to be printed                    B. should have been printed

C. must be printed                      D. should be printed　　

解析：董事会认为这些卷宗应立刻打印。urgent在句中做形式宾语it的补足语，其后的宾语从句应使用虚拟式，即should+动词原形。答案：D

解析：这题与上题一样是动词时态题。句子表示的是时间一直到现在为止，应该用过去完成时，并且将一直继续表示将来，要用将来时，所以明显这题选的是D。

解析：根据句意，第一部分的意思应该是Time permitting=If time permits,独立主格结构相当于条件状语从句，所以选择B.

解析：there be句型在介词for后使用时，用there to be这一结构，在介词of后使用时，用there being这一句型。这里考的是非谓语动词，因此正确答案是D。

A. had received       B. received       C. should receive        D. were receiving

解析：If only引导的是虚拟语气，与过去事实相反用had done，与现在事实相反，谓语动词用did，这里的主句虽然表示的是现在，但是if only表示的是过去发生的事情，要用过去完成时，所以这题的正确答案是A。

 

四，总结

对于—ing 分词的学习，知道了很多直接带—ing，间接带—ing的词，词组。进一步巩固了语法的学习。更深刻地理解到勤奋的重要性，因为很多都需要去记忆的。虽然有的可以巧妙记忆，但还是那句，记到了就是你的，记不住的，就算学习了也是白学。所以，要好好复习噢！
