Such non-mainstream areas of inquiry as astrology, fortune-telling, and psychic and paranormal pursuit play a vital role in society by satisfying human needs that are not addressed by mainstream science.

 Admittedly, non-mainstream areas have survived for thousands of years and still hold considerable influence over the masses for several reasons. To begin with, people are born curious. For people with such anxious propensity to know their fate and future, whether good or bad. Astrology, fortune-telling and psychics serve as comfort. Ignorance, which largely originate from lack of education, allows for acceptance of such metaphysical research. Second, when something bad happened and people can not find the reasons, our something out of human beings control, people need paranormal strength to ease their stresses and find peace in their heart. Thirdly, something can not explain by modern science, people just have some respect to the nature, so they just think the unexplainable things control by some non-mainstream strength.

 Although it is quiet important for people, but it also has disadvantages.  Without means to evaluate the legitimacy of these avenues of inquiry, participants become vulnerable to self-deception, false hopes, fantastic ideas, and detrimental delusion. So called insights gained from these pursuits can easily serve as a convenient excuse for dangerous, irrational, and unreasonable action.

So it is not the best way to inspire people to achieve their desires and avoid their fears. Some people want to get rich, it is entirely possible to attain his goal only by paying an astrologer to change his luck. We want to see people avoid going to jail by not dong illegal things, not by asking a psychic if he will be caught.

 It is an important thing that let the society do not over dependence on non-stream astrology, and fortune-telling, and psychic.  It is better for them to turn to religion rather than paranormal pursuits. Religions are generally built on thousands of years of wisdom and accumulation, and they generally teach people positive behaviors.
