The time has again arrived, like every year, to celebrate the
birthday of Jesus. He will be re-born in the Bethlehem of our
hearts.
Blessed is he who celebrates and experiences this Divine
presence.
People have different beliefs about Jesus being God, messenger, or
prophet. Besides these He symbolizes Divine consciousness - an
enlightened mystic and a perfect yogi. A yogi's life is itself a
message for this world. He chose poor parents, not a king or an
emperor, but a humble home. This means that for perfection a pure
heart is needed - not wealth, name and fame. So He says, "Blessed
are the pure of heart, for they shall see God."
In the Bhagavad Gita, Lord Krishna describes the quality of a
perfect yogi as "Sthita prajna" - steady in the Lord.
We never see Him worried or smiling. The yogi always keeps himself
in the neutral state. There is no place for grief or joy in Him.
Jesus was totally absorbed with stillness, silence, fasting,
celibacy, and the conquest of sleep, what we call the five pillars
of Sadhana. When He walks (stillness of active senses), there is a
rhythm. When He gives something, the hand moves with awareness.
When He sees and hears (stillness of cognitive senses), He sees the
Divinity and hears the unstruck sound. His mind is also still
because it becomes one with the supreme consciousness. He is the
abode of stillness.
He doesn't teach for hours. He was a silent yogi. He teaches from
his silence. He speaks very key words, so it is difficult to
understand His teaching, though it is in very simple language. His
universal teachings are not only for Christians but for all
humanity.
He says, "I am the son of God in heaven". The Vedas say the same
thing, "amritasya putrah" - we are the sons of Nectar. In other
ways it refers to the great word of the Vedas "tatwamasi"- Thou art
That, and "aham brahmasmi" - I am Brahman. Jesus says the same
thing "I and My Father are one."
He was crucified for saying this. He was not a robber or a sinner.
He did not hurt anybody physically, mentally or vocally. He
accepted everything that came in the way of His life. He didn't
even hesitate to accept death to teach people the presence of
Divinity in man. He said, "Blessed are the peacemakers, for they
shall be called the Children of God"
"The kingdom of God is eternal and blissful, which is within you."
One has to search for that kingdom inside. This could mean that
meditation is the way to reach that kingdom. So he says. "Seek ye
first the kingdom of God." And if you practice "Thy kingdom come,"
there will be self realization or Samadhi. He did not proclaim
himself as a great master or Guru but a "door." Similarly, Buddha
spoke of himself as a "kalyana mitra," the friend of noble path.
Jesus says "I am the door. By me, if any man enters in, he shall be
saved."
In the ancient manual of yoga all the teachings of Jesus are
available in one form or another. So no doubt, He was a great
enlightened and accomplished yogi. Understanding His teaching in
the yogic way, one can achieve Samadhi for sure.
At this time, on the auspicious birthday celebration of a great
mystic, let us meditate and achieve the Christ consciousness in the
heaven of our
heart.
