徐志摩是具有鲜明艺术个性的新月派的代表诗人。他1915年毕业于杭州一中,1918年赴美国留学。1921年赴英国留学，在剑桥两年深受西方教育的熏陶及欧美浪漫主义和唯美派诗人的影响，开始创作新诗。1922年返国后在报刊上发表大量诗文。1923年，参与发起成立新月社。加入文学研究会。1924年与胡适、陈西滢等创办《现代评论》周刊，任北京大学教授。印度大诗人泰戈尔访华时任翻译。1925年赴欧洲、游历苏、德、意、法等国。1926年在北京主编《晨报》副刊《诗镌》，与闻一多、朱湘等人开展新诗格律化运动，影响到新诗艺术的发展。同年移居上海，任光华大学、大夏大学和南京中央大学教授。1927年参加创办新月书店。次年《新月》月刊创刊后任主编。并出国游历英、美、日、印诸国。1930年任中华文化基金委员会委员，被选为英国诗社社员。同年冬到北京大学与北京女子大学任教。1931年初，与陈梦家、方玮德创办《诗刊》季刊，被推选为笔会中国分会理事。同年11月19日，因飞机失事去逝。

徐志摩著有诗集《志摩的诗》，《翡冷翠的一夜》、《猛虎集》、《云游》，散文集《落叶》、《巴黎的鳞爪》、《自剖》、《秋》等多部。

Xu Zhimo, originally named Zhangxu, with pen-name of Nanhu, Yunzhonghe, etc., a native of Haining, Zhejiang Province, was born in 1897.

Xu Zhimo, the representative poet of the Crescent School, he graduated from Hangzhou First High School in 1915. He went to the United States for further study in 1918 and went to the United Kingdom in 1921, studying at the Cambridge University for two year and initiating his poet career under the influence of the European and American Romanticism and Estheticism. After his return to China in 1922, he published a large number of new poems. In 1923 he participated in founding the Crescent School and later became the member of the Literature Research School. In 1924 he created The Modern Review Weekly with Hu Shi and Chen Xiying and served as the professor in the Peking University. He acted as the guide and interpreter for Rabindranath Tagore during his visit to China in 1924. In 1925 he traveled to the Europe, including Germany, France, Italy and Russia. In 1926 he served as the chief editor of Poetry Supplement, Morning Newspaper, initiating the influential campaign of metrical pattern of new poetry with Wen Yiduo and Zhu Xiang. He moved to Shanghai in the same year, serving successively as the professor in Guanghua University, Daxia University and the Nanjing Central University. In1927 he founded the Crescent bookstore and the Crescent monthly in Shanghai as the chief-editor in 1928. In 1930 he was selected as the member of the Chinese Cultural Foundation Commission and the British Poetry School. He moved to teach in the Peking University and the Peking Women University in the same year. Early in 1931 he created Poetry Quarterly with Chen Mengjia and Fang Weide and was selected as the council member of Chinese Pen. On November 19, 1931, he died in an airplane crash on his way from Shanghai to Peking.

Xu Zhimo was the author of many poetry books including Poetry of Zhimo, An Evening in Florence, Fierce Tiger, Roaming and several essay books of The Fallen Leaves, Tidbits From Paris, Self-Analysis, Autumn, etc.
