如果你给潜在申请人一个字的建议， 那会是什么？
面谈过程中会遇见很多挑战和困难，比如努力与说难懂地方方言的申请人沟通，面谈没有很好准备的申请人和造假的申请人，这种情况下仅有几分钟的时间面谈每一位申请人，在如此短时间内快速做出决定是很难的。目前为止最具挑战性的部分是整天都要努力做出正确的决定，并在运用美国移民法和安全事务与使所有符合条件的申请人都能赴美旅行的强烈愿望之间寻求平衡。有时申请人觉得我们很容易做出签证决定，但是我告诉你们根据经验我们非常重视考虑所有的因素，并努力就每一个申请做出正确的决定。我们没有忽视这一经验。
做你自己，因为没有一个正确答案！每周我们听到的由同一签证中介训练的申请人所给出的相同回答就多达几千遍；相信我，事先准备好的讲话不会使你得到签证！事实上有时它会妨碍你讲述你自己的故事，妨碍你通过签证面谈。我的另一条建议就是：放松！我们知道申请签证可能是个紧张的过程，但是建议你们依次按部就班地进行。美国签证被拒签并不意味着世界末日；有些申请人在第二次或第三次申请中通过了，即使你没有拿到美国签证，仍然有很多其它好的学校，在那里你可以追求你的梦想。
If you could give
potential applicants one word of advice, what would it
be?
There are many challenges and frustrations on the interview
line, such as trying to communicate with people who speak difficult
dialects, interviewing poorly prepared or fraudulent applicants,
and the speed with which we have to make decisions, which leaves
only a few minutes to talk to each applicant. But the most
challenging part by far is just trying to make the right decisions
all day long, to balance applying American immigration law and
security concerns, with the overwhelming desire to enable all
qualified applicants to travel to the United States. Sometimes
applicants believe that we too easily make visa decisions, but I
can tell you from experience that we care deeply about trying to
consider all the facts and make the right adjudication decisions in
every single case. We lose sleep over it.
Be yourself, because there’s
no one right answer! Thousands of times each week we listen
to the same speeches from applicants coached by the same visa
agents; trust me, giving a speech won’t get you a visa! In fact
sometimes it can prevent you from telling your own story and
passing your visa interview. My other piece of advice is: relax! We
know that applying can be a stressful process, but just try to take
it one step at a time. Being refused a US visa is not the end of
the world; many people pass on their second or third try, and even
if you cannot receive a US visa, there are plenty of other great
schools where you can pursue your dreams!
