翻译的原则，又称翻译的标准，是指导翻译实践，以及评价译文质量的尺度。 

      18世纪末，爱丁堡大学历史教授亚历山大·F·泰特勒（Alexander Fraser Tytler,1749-1814）在《论翻译的原则》一书中系统地提出了进行翻译和评判翻译标准的三条基本原则： 

1. A translation should give a complete transcript of the ideas of the original work.

译文应完全复写出原作的思想。

2. The style and manner of writing should be of the same character as that of the original.

译文的风格和笔调应与原文的性质相同。

3. A translation should have all the ease of the original composition.

译文应和原作同样流畅。

       我们在做完任何一次翻译的时候，都需要拿出泰特勒先生的翻译三原则，来审视自己的译文，看看自己的译文是否都符合泰特勒的翻译三原则，养成良好的翻译习惯，才可以不断地在翻译方面取得进步。
