Learning experiences happen to us throughout our lives. Not long ago, I had one that I would like to   50  .

I was going to Marblehead with my sailboat team. The team was racing down the highway at 85mph   51   we realized we were   52  . Luckily, we saw a rest area ahead. I had a brand-new $ 20 bill. I was so excited because I had never had that kind of cash before. But spending it on food seemed like throwing it away. We all rushed into the pizza line.   53   I got a pizza and a drink, and walked to my table. About halfway through the meal, I  54   I had not actually handed any money to the cashier. Section B

Directions:    Read the following three passages. Each passage is followed by several questions or unfinished statements. For each of them there are four choices marked A, B, C and D. Choose the one that fits best according to the information given in the passage you have just read.

(A)

One sixth of undergraduates in Beijing this year have registered at a driving school. The students, mostly from majors such as business management or international trade, will finish their driving courses within 20 days or so.

Training costs have dropped to 2,600 yuan for students, according to the Haidian Driving School in Beijing. The price is not really low, but students will accept it, seeing it as an investment in their future. Familiarity with the operation of computers and fluent English are the basic skills graduating students need to find a job. But a driver’s permit has become another factor.

“In the job market, owning a driver’s permit sometimes strengthens a graduating student’s competitiveness for a good position,” says Zhou Yang, an undergraduate at the China University of Political Science and Law.

Cars will become a necessary part of many people’s lives in the coming years, and it’s difficult to get a permit out of campus because of the pressures on working people’s time. “Having a full-time job after graduation offers limited time to learn to drive. We senior students have plenty of spare time, plenty of opportunities to learn.”

Xu Jian, an official at the driving school, said undergraduates were very able and serious, and could grasp in an hour what it took ordinary people four hours to learn. In this driving school, middle-aged people, young women and college students are the main customers.

To get a driver’s permit, a beginner is now required to have at least 86 hours’ practice before the final road test.

65. The undergraduates are learning to drive because         .

      AThey like to drive cars

BThey need this skill to find a good job.

CMost of them will be able to buy cars in the future

DThey want to become full-time drivers after graduation

66. Which of the following is Xu Jian’s opinion of students learning to drive?

AHe decided it was a waste of money and time.

BHe thought they must learn it at school.

CHe thought they would spend three times more time.[来源:__]

DHe agreed that young people had an advantage in learning to drive.

67. Which of the following would be the best title of this passage?

A.     Students Learn to Drive

B.  Welcome to Driving School

C.      It’s Better to Learn to Drive at College

D.  Students Pay Less to Learn to Drive Now

(B)

You feel happiest when you create a healthy balance between giving and receiving. If you give and give without making time to fill your own needs, then it’s likely you will burn out, or feel upset .When you take and take without giving anything back, you never feel fulfilled, so you are always searching for ways to fill the void in your life.

The way to create a healthy balance between giving and receiving is to know and then live by your values .I break values up into two groups which I call being and having values. Your being values are the character traits of the ideal person you would like to be. I suggest to my clients that they choose three being values that they are willing to make a commitment to live by. An example of some being values are: kind, loving, generous, inspirational, peaceful, wise and even powerful. By acting on these values you give to others through your actions and you inspire others by being a positive role model. Mastering being these character traits becomes your life purpose.

Your having values are the feelings you need to create in order to be happy. These could be companionship, achievement, support, being valued or financial security. This is what you receive. You take responsibility for filling your own needs by taking steps to create these feelings and conditions in your life.

When you make a commitment to live by your being values, it becomes easier to make conscious choices rather than reactionary ones. If your usual pattern is to talk about your problems, you could choose to think and act like a calm person. A calm person might go for a walk , meditate, or set a time limit before responding. If your usual pattern is to worry, you could choose to act like a responsible or wise person. In other words, you would act like the person you choose to be—this is the key to personal power.

When you choose to act on your values, you not only feel good about yourself, you reinforce your chosen beliefs. Over time acting in this way changes how you see the world, and in turn the way other people think of you.

68. The main purpose of this passage is to     .

Apersuade the readers to make a commitment

Bexplain to the readers what personal values are

Cinform the readers how to be truly happy

Dinstruct the readers how to make wise choices

69. According to the text, living by your being values, you would     .

Again a lot of power                              Bform positive personality

Cseek all human virtues                          Dfill your own needs

70. The underlined word “void” in Paragraph 1 means     .

Aa feeling of emptiness                          Ban absence of one’s mind

Ca break of continuity                            Da state of confusion

71. What can be inferred from the text?

AHaving values are better than being values.

BA calm person does not choose to complain.

CThe way other people think of you decides who you are.

DA responsible person does not care about financial security.

(C)

I hear many parents complaining that their teenage children are rebelling. I wish it were so. At your age you ought to be growing away from your parents. You should be learning how to stand on your own two feet. But take a look at the present rebellion. It seems that teenagers are all taking the same way of showing that they disagree with their parents. Instead of striking out boldly on their own, most of them are clutching at (attempting to seize) one another's hands for reassurance.

They claim that they want to dress as they please. But they all wear the same clothes. They set off in new directions in music. But somehow they all end up crowded round listening to the same record. Their reason for thinking or acting in thus-and-such a way is that the crowd is doing it. They have come out of their cocoon -- into a lager cocoon.

It has become harder and harder for a teenager to stand up against the popularity wave and to go his or her own way. Industry had firmly carved out a teenager market. These days every teenager can learn from the advertisements what a teenager should have and be. And many of today’s parents have come toward high marks for the popularity of their children. All this adds up to a great barrier for the teenager who wants to find his or her own path.

But the barrier is worth climbing over. The path is worth following. You may want to listen to classical music instead of going to a party. You may want to collect rocks when everyone else is collecting records. You may have some thoughts that you don't care to share at once with your classmates. Well, go to it. Find yourself. Be yourself. Popularity will come with the people who respect you for who you are. That is the only kind of popularity that really counts.

72. The author’s purpose of writing this passage is to tell________.

A. readers how to be popular with people around

    B. teenagers how to decide things for themselves

    C. parents how to control and guide their children

    D. people how to understand and respect each other

73. Which of the following is NOT true according to the passage?

    A. There is no popularity that really counts.[来源:Z#xx#k.Com]

    B. What many parents are doing is in fact preventing their children from finding their own paths.

    C. It is not necessarily bad for a teenager to disagree with his or her classmates.

    D. Many teenagers claim that they want to do what they like to do.

74. The author thinks of advertisements as _____.

    A. debatable    B. instructive      C. inevitable      D. authoritative

75. During the teenage years, one should learn to ___________.

    A. differ from others in as many ways as possible

    B. become as popular as possible.

    C. find one’s real self and not to follow others’ fashion blindly.

D. rebel against parents and the popularity waves

Section C

Directions: Read the following text and choose the most suitable heading from A-F for each paragraph. There is one extra heading which you do not need.

A.     The benefits of visiting museums

B.      Educational functions

C.      Places for collections of objects

D.     The common aim of all museums

E.      Precious chance to see famous masterpieces

F.      Strive to improve their collections

76. ____________ Museums are places where collections of objects are preserved and put on show. The objects may be anything found in nature made by man. There are museums devoted to art, science, history, industry and technology.

77. ____________ But museums are no longer just storehouse for collections. Today nearly all museums , large or small, carry on educational programs. Museums offer guided tours, lectures, films, music recitals, art lessons, and other attractions. They organize field trips and clubs. They publish guides to help visitors to gain a better understanding of the collections.

78. _____________ All museums share a common aim —— to attract visitors and help them to understand and enjoy the collections. Museums are always on the watch for new additions to their collections. Works of art are bought from art dealers and private collectors. Museums also accept gifts, but the large museums no longer accept everything that is offered to them. They accept only objects of collections that meet their high standards.

79. ______________ Museums often arrange loan exhibitions of important works from private owners, art dealers and other museums. In this way a famous masterpiece may be viewed by people who otherwise might never have the chance to see it. For example, in 1963 the Metropolitan Museums of Art in New York city exhibited one of the world’s most famous ladies —— Mona Lisa, painted by Leonardo Da Vinci. The government of France had lent the painting to the United States. Attendance at the Metropolitan and reached an all-time high during the month Mona Lisa was shown there.

80. _______________ What is to be gained from visiting museums? Museum exhibits can teach us about the world in which we live —— the materials it is made of, the trees and plants that cover it, and the animals that have lived on it since its beginning. We can learn about the activities of m an —— his history and development as well as his accomplishments in arts and crafts. Most people see a great work of art for the first time in a museum. We cannot all be explorers or collectors in other lands. But in a museum we can see for ourselves the objects that have been gathered from every part of the world.

Section D

Directions: Read the passage carefully. Then answer the questions or complete the statements in the fewest possible words.

Cooking was once regarded as an essential part of education in Englandeven if it was mainly aimed at girls. In recent decades cooking has progressively become an unimportant activity in schools. In many cases the schools themselves have given up cooking meals in kitchens on the premises. But the rising level of obesity(肥胖) has led to a rethink about the food that children are given and the skills they should be taught. Ed Balls is the minister in charge of schools. “What I want is for young people to be taught how to do basic, simple recipes like a tomato sauce, a simple curry, a stir-frywhich they can use then at home an in their later life, experiment with, discover the joy of food, having got the basics under control.”  The new lessons are due to start in September but some schools without kitchens will be given longer to adapt. There is also likely to be a shortage of teachers with the right skills, since the trend has been to teach food technology rather than practical cooking. Also the compulsory lessons for hands on cooking will only be one hour a week for one term. But the well known cookery writer, Pru Leith, believes it will be worth it.

“If we’d done this thirty years ago we might not have the crisis we’ve got now about obesity and lack of knowledge about food and so on. Every child should know how to cook, not just so that they’ll be healthy, but because it’s a life skill which is a real pleasure and we deny children that pleasure.”

The renewed interest in cooking is primarily a response to the level of obesity in Britain which is among the highest in Europe, and according to government figures hall of all Britons will be obese in 25 years if current trends are not halted.

(Note: Answer the questions or complete the statements in NO MORE THAN ELEVEN WORDS)

81. Cooking used to be __________________________________________________ in England.

82. What made people reconsider the importance of cooking in education?

_____________________________________________________________________________

83. Why does the author think there won’t be enough teachers with the right skills?

_____________________________________________________________________________

84. Pru Leith believes that cooking lessons will not only make the children healthy, but also _____________________________________________________________________________
