       就在法国定居者到达这里的几天前，英国人与当地人签署了怀唐伊条约。按约规定英国人享有对新西兰全境的主权。得知法国人即将返回这里后，诚惶诚恐的英国人把军舰开到这里，并升起了米字旗，声称自己拥有班克斯半岛的主权。
