《教程》的第一章是由  南京国际关系学院英语系主任、教授 李战子 先生编写的。

1.第六页第二段第六行原文如下：

    The lowest level consists of dozens of bits of meaningless sounds which occur in chumps that we call syllables.  A syllable is the smallest unit that is normally spoken by itself.  Scores of syllables become the carriers of hundreds of meaningful segments of words that are called morphemes,...

  音节并不一定总是以成串儿的音出现的，例如 [ai] (“眼睛”eye 和“我”I)是由一个元音构成的音节.

2.第六页

   1.3.3 creativity 原文

   By creativity we mean language is resourceful because of its duality and its recursiveness.

有考研题让论述：语言的创造性是因为语言具有双重性和任意性。

   语言的循环性和任意性搭边儿吗？如果不是，那应该说是语言的创造性来源于语言的双重性、任意性和循环性。你如何看？

3. 第六页第四段第二行

   A large number of different units can be formed out of a small number of elements--for instance, tens of thousands of words out of a small set of sounds, around 48 in the case of the English language. 

  同章16页第一段第四行

  English has approximately forty-five phonemes.英语大约有45个音位，48个中去掉tr, dr, ts, dz后，还有哪一个呢？

   第二章31页关于（8）affricate的叙述中可知第二章的编写者认为英语音位在去除tr, dr, ts, dz，以后，只有44个。

同样的问题，两个章节的编写者的说法不同一。

就是同一章的编者李战子先生也一会儿说是48个，一会儿说是45个。

以上现象实属不应该，或至少应该解释一下是哪45个音位呢?

4.印刷错误 

第11页

 1)第一行第二个句子的第一个词少了一个大写的B，而且原来的第一个大写字母 R 应该改为小写的 r .

 2)同页倒数第四行[a] the lion chased the uncorn (这个词应该为 unicorn 少了一个字母 i )all  around the town.

 3）同章第10页

   第二段第三行开头关于小孩运用的七大语言功能，representational 是应该改为informative.

5.第一章16页 1.7.3 Morphology部分第一段倒数第二行

  As morphemes are pairings of sounds with meanings....

    并不是所有的词素都是音串儿和意义的匹配体，有的词素只是一个有意义的单音，例如表示单数可数名词复数的-s.一个词素不一定是音的组合体，一个词素不一定是一个音节，一个音节也不一定是一个词素。当一个单音带有确定意思时或是一个音的组合体带有确定的意思时，都可以称为是一个词素。词素、音节（仅限以音的组合形式出现的音节）、单音之间的关系是比较复杂的。

6.第14页

1.6 What is linguistics?部分第一段前两行

    Having discussed about the design features and functions of language, the object of linguistics,....

 the object of linguistics 指什么？指language?如果是这样，那根据书中叙述问题的顺序，应该这样说：Having discussed the object of linguistics, its design features and its functions,....

the object of linguistics 到底指什么呢？

7. 第14页最后两行

   The form or structure of a sentence is governed by the rules of syntax.

语言的form 和structure不是一回事。例如书上下一页顶部的两个句子forms 虽然相同，但structure却不同，两个长着同样面目的句子的意思却不同。

a.The children watched [the firework from the hill].

b.The children watched [the firework][ from the hill].
