是陕北保存最完好的古镇之一，丰富的历史遗存唤起了人们对那个时代的记忆。2007年，古镇被列为市级重点文物保护单位。2009年，镇政府投资160万元,对古镇街道进行维修和恢复，只有少数住户还住在古镇上，使得到保护的古镇显得有些宁静。古镇的东面是石峁龙山文化遗址，发现于1976年，总面积90万平方米，出土有大量的石器、陶器、玉器，并有原始村落、民居、石棺墓葬、陶瓮葬、祭祀场所、灰窖等遗迹遗址，2006年列为国家重点文物保护单位。在千佛洞和万佛洞，满壁佛像排列有序，享有“千年古窟”的美誉。镇北暗门峁有明长城易马城遗址；镇东石峁、土王山、叠翠山等处均有秦汉或唐宋古城遗址；镇东邱家园子有八卦墓遗址；镇东南的点军崖有秦王点兵遗迹。http://s2/middle/5d92c9f1xcb862709a5b1&690
