It was the first day of school.
As the principal （校长）made his rounds（巡视）, he heard a terrible
commotion （骚乱）coming from one of the classrooms. He rushed in and
spotted （发现）one boy, taller than the others, who seemed to be
making the most noise.
He seized（抓住） the lad,
dragged（拖） him to the hall, and told him to wait there until he was
excused.
Returning to the classroom, the
principal restored （恢复）order and lectured （训话）the class for half an
hour about the importance of good behavior.
“Now,”he said, “are there any
questions?”
One girl stood up timidly（胆怯地）.
“Please sir,”she asked, “May we have our teacher
back?”
开学第一天。正当校长在校园里巡视时，听到从一个班级里发出很严重的骚乱声。校长冲过去，发现其中一个比别的孩子都高的男孩，好像正制造最多的噪音。
校长抓住这个小伙子，把他拖到会议室，并告诉他说除非得到宽恕，否则他不准离开会议室。
校长返回那个教室，恢复教室秩序后，开始进行半个多小时的训话，教育学生良好表现的重要性。
“现在，”校长说，“有谁有什么问题吗？”
一个小女孩胆怯地站起来说：“先生，”她说，“您可以把我们的老师放回来吗？”
There was a little old lady
standing at a corner one windy day. She was using both hands to
keep her hat on while the wind blew her dress up.
A dignified （尊严的）southern
gentleman came up and said, “Ma'am, you should be ashamed（羞愧）of
yourself, letting your skirt blow around, like that, while you
stand there holding your hat on.”
“Look,” she said, “everything
under the dress is seventy years old, the hat is brand new!”
一位老妇人在一个刮大风的天气里站在一个拐角处。她两只手都只顾紧紧地抓住头上的帽子，然而大风把她的裙子给掀了起来。

Once in a physics examination,
Nick finished the first question very soon, while his classmates
were thinking it hard.
The question was: When it
thunders why do we see the lighting first, then hear the thunder
rolls?
Nick's answer: Because our eyes
are before ears.
在一次物理考试中，当别的同学都在苦思冥想第一个问题的时候，尼克很快就完成了。

A Hollywood producer was
determined to give his mother a birthday gift that would be better
than any his brothers were giving her． He heard about an amazing
bird which could talk in twelve languages and sing ten famous
operas． He immediately bought the bird and sent it to his
mother．
It cost him
$50，000．
The day after her birthday，he
phoned his mother．"What did you think of the bird， Mother?" he
asked eagerly．His mother replied，"Delicious!"
一个好莱坞的制片人决定送给他妈妈一件生日礼物，这件生日礼物一定要比他的几个兄弟送的还要好。他听说有一只神奇的鸟会说12种语言，唱10首著名的歌剧。于是，这个制片人马上把这只鸟买回来送给他妈妈。这只鸟花了他5万美元。
在他妈妈生日后的第二天，这个制片人打电话给他妈妈。“妈妈，你觉得那只鸟怎么样啊？”他急切地问。
他的妈妈回答说：“味道好极了！”
