Haven’t you seen these tourists sat outside cafes on the ChampsElysees with, like, a two-litre flagon of beer?  Do you know what is wrong?  It’s because they’ve asked for ‘une biere’ ( one beer), you’ve got to order ‘ un demi’ (a half). That means a normal, 25 cl glass. Kind of like a half-pint. You say that and they know you’re not a tourist.

So you shall get to use waiters’ language in a cafe or restaurant in Paris. Crème is a coffee with milk, not ‘un café au lait’. An espresso is ‘ un express’. An espresso with a bit of milk in it is ‘une noisette’. A weak black coffee is ‘un allonge’.
