今天下午去邻镇一个咖啡馆参加每月一次的诗朗诵会，主客是分别从威斯康辛及爱荷华州赶来的两位诗人。小小的咖啡馆挤满了熟悉的脸孔，大家相见甚欢。主客朗诵後，便是本地的诗人们轮流上台朗诵自己的近作。这首题为<60秒 >便是其中之一。作者佛提尔是前任伊利诺州诗人协会的会长，目前在杜佩奇学院及本笃会大学教授写作。朗诵完後她笑着对我说：“这诗的最后一行是学你的”。

What if I gave you
one minute to tear around
inside my heart.  What
would you uncover?

Have I hidden the most
painful stories in
corner drawers?  Did I
bury the most cherished dreams
in caves? Have I shredded
memories, red
with embarrassment,
of an old lover?

If I granted you
the one moment, I wonder
what you would take,
what you would pass over.

Would you laugh,
leave me
hold me?

Run for cover.
