Not
Ambitious

Johnny wasn't a very ambitious person.
At twenty-one years old, he had a low-paying
part-time job and lived in his parents' basement.
Johnny wasn't interested in continuing his
education.  He slept late and spent most of his
time watching television. He made promises about doing this or
that, but nothing ever happened.
    Johnny's
lack of motivation particularly aggravated his father,
Zarek.  Zarek was a very hard
worker and had accomplished a lot in his life. He immigrated to
this country when he was fourteen. He studies hard and learned
English. Zarek went to school and learned to be an electrician.
He bought a house. He supported a family.
Zarek couldn't stand to watch Johnny waste time
and do nothing.
    One
evening after work,  Zarek walked down the
basement steps. Of course, Johnny was on the sofa watching
television. "Johnny," said Zarek. "We need to
talk."
    "What is
it?" asked Johnny.
    "You
aren't doing anything with your life," said Zarek, "and it isn't
good for you. You need to enroll in college or a vocational school.
Or you need to get a full-time job and pay rent. If you don't like
those options, then you need to move out in thirty days and live
independently. Do you understand?"
    "Yes,"
said Johnny, a little sadly. "I understand. But you really mean it?
Most of the fathers on TV are only joking."
