efficacious, efficient
The central meaning shared by
these adjectives is “producing or capable of producing a desired
effect”:
这些形容词的中心意义是“产生或能产生期望的结果”：
an effective
reprimand;
收效的惩戒；
an effectual
complaint;
有效的批评；
这两个字都可译做“有效的”，几乎同义，但 effective比
effectual常用。两字最大的分别，在于 effectual表示成效已见，
