Prologue My Name Is Baiyun

My name is Baiyun (White Cloud) and I was born in 1991among the verdant mountains and clear waters of the Wolong GiantPanda Center. It was there, under the loving, watchful eye of the Wolong
folk, that I spent my childhood. In 1996 I left my homeland for America, and it was here that Shishi and I fell for one another. On August 21st 1999, my first child was born, a beautiful girl who
was given the name Huamei. In 2003, Shishi returned to his native China, and my life with an older man was over. Later that year, Gaogao arrived in America, and suddenly there was a new man in my life. Gaogao, whose age was similar to mine, was a strapping, dashing  fellow who hailed from the wilderness the Fengtong Valley Nature
Reserve in the Qionglai Mountains. As he was from the same neck of  the woods as my father, the two of us hit it off straight away, and before long a full-blown romance had blossomed. On August 19th 2003 my son Meisheng was born, and on August 2nd 2005 he was joined by his sister Sulin. On August 3rd 2007 I was blessed with yet another
daughter, Zhenzhen, and in 2009, at the ripe old age of eighteen, Igave birth to Yunzi.
Life away from home has flown by, and in the blink of an eye the flower of youth has given way to old age. In 2004, my oldest daughter Huamei had a child of her own, and I am now a grandmother.
Though I want for nothing here, surrounded by family and cared for and doted on by the American people, thoughts of my birthplace, my clan, my siblings and my homeland do still creep in during the long, quiet nights. Years pass, yet night after night, all of these thoughts flash before my eyes, and linger in my dreams.

开篇  我是白云
我是白云，1991年我出生在中国卧龙大熊猫中心，在那片青山绿水的怀抱里，在卧龙人百般呵护的关爱中，度过了我的童年和少女时代。1996年，我远离家乡来到美国，和石石结为连理，1999年8月21号，我的第一个孩子出生了，一个可爱的小女儿，人们给她起名叫华美，大概是从中华人民共和国和美利坚人民共和国中各取一个字的组合，象征着两国人民的友谊吧。2003年，石石回到中国，我也结束了老夫少妻的生活。就在这一年，高高来到美国，我就有了第二任丈夫。高高和我年龄相当，是个威武英俊的小伙子，他来自邛崃山的蜂桶寨保护区的野外，和我的父亲盼盼是老乡，所以，我们特别投缘，就接二连三有了爱情的结晶。2003年8月19号有了儿子美生，2005年8月2号生下女儿苏琳，2007年8月3号又一个小女儿珍珍出世，2009年，我都18岁了，还老来得子生下了小宝贝云子。
异国他乡的日子过得也快，转眼我就从花季少女到了20岁的老年，特别是我的大女儿华美，在2004年回到中国后，也有了自己的孩子，我就当上了外婆。
年纪大了，就容易想心事。虽然我在这里有着热热闹闹的一大家子，还有美国人民的精心照顾和喜爱，过着衣食无忧的幸福生活，可是，每当夜深人静的时候，我还是会想起我的故乡，我的家族，我的同胞，我远古的祖先。一年又一年，一天又一天，这一切都会一幕一幕地出现在我的眼前，萦绕在我的梦里……
