How About Anecdotes ?

 

After reading my blog , a netizen commented ：

“Respecting science and facts is our proper attitude !”

 

I replied : You are right ! 

But some pseudo scholars who always want to ruin our

TCM ( Traditional Chinese Medicine ) describe all facts 

of effective treatment of diseases by our TCM as 

 "Individual Cases " ,  "Anecdotes "  or "Personal 

Experience " , and assert that all of  these facts are

meaningless to prove the curative effect , and all facts

are "Efficacy  Hallucinations " ! 

 

Is it true ?

And even if TCM treatment is truly " Anecdotes ", do 

the "Anecdotes" really have no academic value ?

 

Now , let's talk about  an " Anecdotes ":

 

As we know , smallpox used to be a highly contagious

disease , which claimed hundreds of millions of lives .

 

At the end of the 18th century , the British doctor Jenner

learned a commonly accepted statement among the 

dairy women and farmers in the region he was in :

“ Cowpox is  a minor disease of cattle , but  it can  

also be transmitted to people .  If one is infected

with cowpox , he will never get smallpox again .”

 

Should this be regarded as a kind of " Anecdotes " at 

that time ?

 

However , Jenner  realized that vaccinating people 

with vaccinia was a safe way to immunize them 

against  smallpox if this Anecdotes  the local 

dairy workers and farmers said were right .

So  Jenner made a careful investigation and study of 

this Anecdotes . 

In 1796 , he was finally convinced that the statements

in these Anecdotes  were correct , so he decided to 

test them directly .

 

In this way , Doctor Jenner carried out rational analysis ,

scientific experiments , and careful evaluation of such

 "Anecdotes  " .

At last , Jenner had  effectively promoted the 

development of human immunology , ans also

effectively promoted the development of medical 

science .

In the end , humans effectively ended the deadly 

infectious disease of smallpox in this way !

However , some pseudo scholars  around us are 

always so dismissive of the "Anecdotes " of our 

own TCM , so that they have always lagged far 

behind others in professional level .

 

In fact , if any doctor really puts patients in his heart , 

he will cherish any effective treatment case , never

distinguish whether the treatment case is from TCM 

or western medicine , or whether the treatment case 

is from the East or the West , even if it is just an

"Anecdotes"! .

 

Because medical science is to treat diseases , other 

words are all cumbersome !
