Why To Be Excessive Inferiority  ？

 

 

Preface : This article is written for the protection of 

our TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine).

 

Recently , I read a blog and was shocked :

 

I was surprised to find that many persons have no

self-confidence and extreme inferiority , which is 

not desirable at all !

       

 The article quoted Mr . Arthur Henderson Smith's 

words , saying:

“Chinese people are confused , and they are used 

to explaining facts by facts themselves .”

 

Mr. A·H·Smith also said that one of the reasons for 

this result is that Chinese nouns have no case change . 

They have neither "gender" nor "case".

         

Such a view is really strange !

So , It is easy to refute this view：

 

1.  There is no principled error in discussing according

to facts.

 

2. In fact , we rarely use a fact to explain the fact 

itself.

Because we have enough argumentation methods

so that we never lack what they have !

Of course , in spoken language , we may only focus on

how to tell others what we mean , but ignore logical

reasoning , which is just to meet the language efficiency

in spoken language .

 

Actually , it is the same in their own language :

They often only pay attention to oral efficiency so that 

few of them keep an eye on logics in oral .

 

And what the speaker said were just examples of our 

oral conversations .

3. Our Chinese does not have gender or case ,  but 

when necessary , our language has enough methods 

to express gender and case clearly so that we never 

need to use other languages for expressing gender 

or case .

Therefore , our language does not have any defects in 

this respect !

In a word , there is no reason that can cause our 

thoughts to be confused !

That article also quoted Lin Yutang's words , saying

that the lack of developed natural science in China

is due to the thinking characteristics of Chinese 

people.

Lin Yutang said: 

"In Chinese literature , there has never been eloquent

arguments . 

Chinese writer first puts forward one or two arguments, 

and then immediately puts forward a conclusion.

When reading his articles , you rarely see how he came

to this conclusion."

 

He also said that of all the ancient philosophers in the 

Zhou Dynasty , only Mozi and Han Feizi had styles 

close to the powerful argumentation style . 

Mencius was undoubtedly a great sophist , but he was 

only interested in such big and broad words as 

"benefit " and " righteousness " .

Other philosophers , such as Zhuangzi , Liezi and 

Huainanzi , were only interested in beautiful 

metaphors .

 

Hui Shi and Gong Sunlong  , Mozi's disciples , were 

great  sophists . 

Chinese philosophers especially like to use the 

method of analogical reasoning to demonstrate , 

such as Mencius, Xunzi and Zhuangzi . 

The use of metaphor , fable and other techniques is

analogical reasoning , and the results of analogical

reasoning are uncertain , which can not prove any 

point of view.

 

Therefore , Mencius , the most eloquent man in the 

Chinese mind , is actually the most unreasonable . 

His argument is not speculative , but sophistic .

However , earlier philosophers did not argue at all , 

but directly expressed their views and believed that 

they  were right .

For example , the words of Laozi and Confucius are 

the same . 

Lao Tzu said:

 "Tao (The law from nature) can be explained , but it 

may change .” 

Why ? They rarely prove their views and rarely think 

about " why " .

 

In this way , all of our ancestors were regarded as 

nothing by him !

 

Is it true ? No !

Please think about it again :

1.   There are indeed many ideas in our culture that 

can only be understood and difficult to say clearly . 

But these ideas are often the essence of culture.

However , the understanding of these ideas often 

requires some perceptions .

In fact , such perceptions have never been too difficult 

to communicate among persons .

But once it is used in human-computer conversation , 

it is difficult for machines to understand these ideas .

However , it is not human's fault , but because the 

development of AI (Artificial Intelligence) is still a little 

poor , we must not blame our culture for this .

2.   It should be recognized that our ancestors were 

really interested in discussing such abstract concepts 

as "Benefit ", "Righteousness ", "Benevolence " and 

"Tao ", because these issues are of great importance . 

On the other hand , our ancestors did classify the 

logical reasoning of specific problems as "Skill " ,

and believed that these "Skills " were a little low 

level so that almost everyone could deduce by 

himself without any excessive nagging .

Of course , it may be a problem , but not a serious 

one , nor a problem of principle .

Therefore , this question is not enough to completely 

deny the philosophy of our ancestors , or even say 

that our ancestors do not understand logical 

thinking or reasoning !

What's more , all human beings have ways to discuss 

problems such as analogy , fable, and even sophistry .

All of these are a relatively advanced logical way of 

thinking , and naturally belong to the treasure house 

of human wisdom .

We cannot arbitrarily take it for granted that only 

logical reasoning that is understood by machines

is real logical reasoning !

That would be too foolish !

 

In fact , from the development history of AI , logical 

reasoning on specific problems is very simple . 

Almost all logical reasoning can be done by robots , 

while fables , analogies , sophistry , humor, etc. are 

higher thinking activities , which are still difficult for

robots to complete satisfactorily nowadays . 

All these are exactly what the future AI should solve !

Unless someone is willing to let AI stay at the low level 

for ever and he himself also likes to remain at a low IQ 

level for ever , at least not higher than that of robots !

So , as we know , similar questioning is essentially 

Unreasonable Behavior !

 

he took it for granted that only a simple way of 

thinking was desirable .

 

If so ,  AI maybe only stays in the low IQ stage for ever !

3.  On some occasions ,  in order to  express ideas 

quickly , it is not impossible to quibble with some

humor .

For example , if Mencius told King Xuan the logical

reasoning directly , could King Xuan understand it ?

or ,  could King Xuan stand with it ?

It can be seen that Mencius was good at arguing , 

which was the result of the troubled times of the 

Warring States Period so that such result was not

Mencius' fault at all !

Even more , it is worth noting that Mencius' style of

writing was overwhelming righteousness , but some

pseudo scholars always rebut Mencius for his 

reasoning skills .

And in this way , they have been keeping gossiping 

and gossiping about our Mencius , for they are 

always indulging in trivial issues !

How ridiculous it is !

Is this really interesting ?

 

4. If talking about "sophistry",  Lin Yutang's words 

are really sophistry !

As we know , in Lin Yutang's times , our natural 

science , inventions and creations were indeed 

relatively inferior , but no matter how bad , it is

hard to accuse Mencius in 2000 years ago for it !

Such sophistry is extremely strange !

Why didn't Lin Yutang reflect on his own times ,

especially the problems in that times ? 

Is it just because it doesn't pay any cost to scold 

the ancients ?

So ,  I think that  Mencius might say to Lin Yutang:

"You are incompetent, 

               but why does it concern me ? "

5. With the development of history , it can also 

prove that our culture does not have such problem . 

 

For example , our culture includes or tolerates all 

sciences , technologies , as well as all logical 

reasonings .

 

Otherwise , all our courses related to logical 

reasoning would be taught in English !

 

But in fact , a large number of logic course materials 

are compiled in Chinese , and all logic debates and

reasoning in court can be well completed in Chinese .  

All of this never requires any help from other 

languages !

 

Actually , to put it bluntly , such remarks  are all due 

to lack of self-confidence , too low self-esteem , and 

even the abject nature of the speaker !

 

As a matter of fact , the eastern and western cultures 

have their own characteristics , or advantages and

disadvantages .

 

We don't have to only admit that other's is culture , 

and only for it , to regard ourselves' as nothing !

 

It's just something like our getting along with others :

 

While showing our respect for others , but we don't 

have to prove that we ourselves are not human at

first !

 

This inferiority complex is very harmful !

It can harm our culture , our education , our TCM

 ( Traditional Chinese Medicine ), and even every 

aspect of us .

 

We must guard against dangers and prepare for them !

 

What is more dangerous is that this inferiority complex

is still under the banner of academic discussion , and it 

is always mixed up in the network , and it is very 

deceptive .

So , never  be careless !

 

Therefore , it is unreasonable to nag such words on

the internet until now !

 

In nutshell , we need not be excessive inferiority at all !

 

Postscript

 

I wrote this article not because I have any research on

culture , but only because I found the ideological root

of long-term scolding our TCM (Tranditional Chinese

Medicine ) in an unjustified way .

For a long time , there are just some pseudo schoalrs 

who are always abject in their bones and dening all our

originality !

 

In this way , of course , our TCM is doomed !

And also in this way , those pseudo schoalrs  can do

whatever they want !

 

After reading their remarks , I understand following :

In the face of a large number of facts that our TCM can 

effectively treat many diseases , why are there always a

group of pseudo schoalrs  who have been shameless

for a long time to deny all the facts ? They are always

liking showing off playing tricks of deceptions , and 

they take ignorance as authority , and  take 

shamelessness as courage !    

As long as they can deny the  effectiveness and

scientific of our TCM in treating diseases ,   they

would rather be shameless for ever !

The root reason for it is their total negation of our 

original !

 

For example , when we list a large number of facts 

about the effective treatment of diseases by our 

TCM , they will say that we can only talk about the

facts , and only use facts to prove the facts !

 

But when we explain the principle of treating diseases 

with TCM theory , they will conversely say :

”Do you have any fact for saying that TCM can 

cure diseases ? “

 

They are always eloquent !

 

Too much sophistry !

 

In this logic trap , there is no reason to speak .

 

Because if we deal with western medicine in the same 

way , the situation of western medicine will not be 

better than our TCM .

            

Therefore , we should adhere to the first law of 

medical science : 

We should discuss science according to facts ,  

and meanwhile , we should discuss  medical

science according to curative effects .  

 

Only in this way can we get rid of all kinds of 

unreasonable entanglement of sophistry .

 

Only in this way can we get away from various 

logic traps .
