2011年7月27日来到新疆吐鲁番参观交河故城。交河故城位于新疆吐鲁番市以西约13公里的亚尔乡，吐鲁番市西郊10公里牙尔乃孜沟两条河交汇处30米高的黄土台上，长约1650米，两端窄，中间最宽处约300米，呈柳叶形半岛。这里是古代西域三十六城郭诸国之一的车师前国都城，是该国政治、经济、军事和文化中心。吐鲁番的干旱少雨，使故城保存得非常完整，建筑全部由夯土版筑而成，形制布局则与唐代长安城相仿。城内市井、官署、佛寺、佛塔、街巷，以及作坊、民居、演兵场、藏兵壕、寺院佛龛中的泥菩萨都还可以找到。寺院占地5000平方米，有汲水井一口。佛塔群有佛塔101座。1961年国务院公布列为全国重点文物保护单位。被誉为“世界上最完美的废墟”。
